Apple Building Two Million iPad3 Units Before End of Next Month But...
Don't hold your breath for the new iPad 3 just yet.
Although consumers likely won't see the refreshed iPad until spring 2012 at the earliest, Apple is ambitiously ramping up production in hopes of warding off any component supply shortages. Apple is dependent on no shortage of key parts to make the iPad 3 thinner than its predecessors. What's more, the device is said to boast a higher-resolution screen - another factor that is placing component supply pressure on Apple and its far east manufacturing partners.
In the big picture, however, it does indeed look like the iPad 3 is good to go. According to a new report from DigiTimes, not only has all the design work been completed by Apple on the third-generation tablet, but production is already moving forward.
"Apple is currently giving two tablet PC projects codenamed J1 and J2 to its upstream partners for development," the report reads. "The sources revealed that the major differences of the new tablet PCs compared to the previous model are their size, specifications and technologies."
The sources pointed out that the J2 project seems to be an upgrade version of the J1 and although Apple has not yet decided which project will be used for the final launch, Apple is likely to make the final decision based on its needs. As for the upstream side, the component suppliers have already conducted pilot production and prepared for mass production.

I've had the iPad 1 since it's launch in the UK. I'm really looking forward to the iPad 3. Hopefully it'll be much better than what they've made so far!

i expect a smaller version to compete with the kindle fire and a updated version that will be a 2s with updated screen and of course the oh so product exclusive siri. To bad by that time we will probably have a ported version to use on ipad 1 and 2. I don't know if the whole siri thing is going to work again as the main feature as it did on the new iphone.

I'll get an iPad then they are practical - i.e.: when 64GB is the minimum amount of HDD space, there is more "computer" functionality, 1GB+ of RAM, and more than 1GHz of dual core processing power.right now they are just a gimmick.tim

Can we all agree that the damn thing is thin enough? Can we work on the camera and processor and battery. I bought the 2 knowing full well the camera could have easily been the same one in the current 4 (at the time). I buy Apple stuff because it pushes boundrys not because they sandbag customers with trickling out features over a 3 year period. Seriously Apple, you have me today, but you better get back to pushing out the best stuff today. Everyone knows the camera was a trickle move and I'll never buy that crap again. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice? F U.

I'm just messing... TotTally agree with the size.
The iPad 3 has to keep the momentum going to be successful. So you can expect apple to bring it big time. Sooner or later it will plateau just like everything else. It's inevitable, but one thing apple has done is built up a Huge fan base to where they will consistently sell very well.

It's a gimmick that the whole world loves though and as apple says, IT JUST WORKS ! Not like the other tabs out that I've played with, to much trouble and no comparison at all!!!!

If the resolution is better, I'd MAYBE go for it. Still just a little expensive for what it does, IMO.

Anyway, forget about your smaller iPad, this ain't gonna happen. Compete with the Kindle Fire? Puuulease! The Fire tries to compete with the iPad, not the other way around...
There also will be two different iPad models just as much as there was two new iPhone models this year. It simply doesn't make any sense for Apple to do that. They don't need to change their product, it's already by far the best seller. All they need is to keep improving it to stay ahead of the game. I'm not too worry about them being able to do that!
