iVictrola iPad Dock Rocks with Old World Charm
If youíve got a grand burning a hole in your pocket and have an eye for elegant low-tech tech, then Iíve got just the thing for you. Design Within Reach has announced the iVictrola iPad dock. This is the successor to the much more reasonably priced iVictrola for iPhone dock that originally sold for $425. Like the original, the latest model features no moving parts whatsoever and the base is made of a large block of polished wood with an old world phonograph horn sticking out of it.
The iVictrola doesnít include an iPad, so youíll need to pick one up to get the full effect. The unit works by amplifying the iPadís built in speaker through a rather stylish and retro-looking megaphone. Unfortunately, youíll have to settle for mono sound when using this device. Not just because all current iPad models feature a single mono speaker, but also because the iVictrola only has one horn.
The great thing about this little gem of a speaker setup is that you never have to remember to turn it off because it doesnít use any electricity whatsoever. Of course, the same cannot be said for the iPad, so donít expect to charge your device with the iVictrola.
The iVictrola will be available in limited quantities starting in November for $985. Not exactly the cheapest iPad speaker setup in the world, but youíll have a hard time finding anything quite this stylish for anything less.

I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like it would be very hard to make one of those, all you'd need was the horn. Still very cool though.

lol who would be dumb enough to actually buy one of these for ipad or iphone it's literally just some sort of path fromt he speaker to the horn through the wood which focuses the sound why could they seriously price it that much.
I don't know how those people can sleep at night.

This is insulting to think a price like that is actually justified and people would actually buy that thing. Sad thing is.....some poor soul will actually buy it.

Believe it or not, iPad 2's (at least) have a stereo speaker.
