Samsung Delays Australian Galaxy Tab Launch Because of Apple
Samsung's delay of the Australian launch of their Galaxy Tab 10.1 appears to be the first fallout from their ongoing legal battle with Apple.
An agreement has been won by Apple which will prevent Samsung from selling the Galaxy Tab until the patent lawsuit in the country is resolved. According to Steve Burley, an Apple lawyer, the company wants to stop Samsung from selling the tablet in other countries as well.
The agreement between Apple and Samsung, which was reached by lawyers from both sides during a break in the hearing, says should Apple lose its patent lawsuit it agrees to pay Samsung damages. The amount wasn't specified.
Samsung also agreed to provide Apple three samples of the Australian version of their tablet a week before launch so Apple can review the units. Samsung's lawyer Neil Murray said Apple is basing its claim in Australia on a U.S. version of the Galaxy Tablet, which is different from the one that will be sold in Australia.
Murray's comments are interesting, how much different could the Australian version of the Galaxy Tablet be? Is the redesign so radical that Apple would be willing to shelve their lawsuit?
