Amazon Reportedly Prepping Tablet for Q3 Launch
It's a familiar headline that's rearing its head once again today. As it turns out, online retail giant Amazon is still sitting on what may be the worst kept secret in the mobile tech sphere. Without so much as a confirmation yet by CEO Jeff Bezos that an Amazon tablet is about to be introduced, there remains little doubt in the minds of industry analysts that such a device will soon roll out - possibly in the third quarter of 2011.
On Wednesday morning, DigiTimes reported that Taiwanese Integrated Circuit design firms are on pace to see their sales spike dramatically in this time frame - an estimate that coincides with the anticipated launch window for the Amazon tablets.
"With Amazon targeting to ship four million tablet PCs in 2011, IC orders from Amazon have become the second largest order from the tablet PC sector, trailing only the iPad, the sources indicated," DigiTimes says, noting that there will be 7 and 10-inch models.
As we reported in June upon the last heated wave of speculation surrounding an Amazon tablet launch, few concrete details are known about the still-mythical tablet, except that dual-core and quad-core models will likely be produced, all of which will almost certainly run Android. What also remains to be seen, of course, is what Amazon will charge for the device. In order to compete, a lower-end price for a higher-end tablet would go a long way to help Amazon capture a chunk of Apple's huge tablet market share.

Im sure Apple will be just fine. No need to worry. . It's a win-win. If sales for Amazon suck.....Steve and Apple are pleased. If sales are stellar then they are DIS-pleased and will just find a way to get them banned from the U.S. as well. :P

last year Apple owned 94% of the tablet market and Android had just 2.9% In 2011 Apple's share dropped to 61.3% while Android's share grew to 30%
Android's share of the smart phone market is now at 40% while Apple's share barely beats RIM by only 0.3%
Amazon is a retail powerhouse and when combined with Android's popularity over iOS, its easy to see how Android tablets market share will be at 50% or higher by this time next year.
I know its really hard for some of you to accept, but apple is no longer the market leader and they would rather sue than innovate.
