The Paperless iPad Trend Continues In North Carolina Town
Turns out the military and pilots aren't only ones benefiting from the iPad 2's ability to make large quantities of papyrus useless.
Cornelius, NC launched a new program that cuts down on the town's paper use in government facilities, and the iPad 2 is the new work horse. iPad 2's were passed out to city commissioners at a recent board meeting, and the plan is to use the devices for sharing agenda packets, budget information, and any other paperwork the small town government folk might need. If you've ever been to city, county or and type of commissioners meeting you'll understand just how much paperwork this transition could possibly save.
The initial expenses of the program are the purchased iPad 2s which came in at $5,200 and the price of document sharing software the town already possessed. Town officials fully expect to make that money back in saved time and paper costs.
Hopefully the time saved doesn't turn into time distracted. If it does I'm sure we'll hear about Cornelius, NC going bankrupt do to city commissioners syphoning city funds to help support their in-app purchasing fetish.

The iPad 2 is a pretty awesome machine. I like the idea of our government and military using it, but they should work on putting a government-only operating system in it. One that's secure. Maybe a fingerprint scanner, or other means of biometric identification.
The last thing we need is for congressmen/ women playing Angry Birds in a meeting. But then again, maybe a little down time will do them some good.
