App Store Reaches 100,000 iPad Apps

Take a moment to turn on your iPad, or more likely just hit the home button, and unlock the the device, because no one really turns their iPad off.

Mozy on down to The App Store icon, tap it with the capacitive touch stylus known as your finger, and search for any app. In the upper left hand corner you'll notice a little number showing you the total number of apps at 100,161. This doesn't include scaled up iPhone apps either, but fully optimized iPad applications.

Bravo iPad developers you've reached another milestone. As MacStories points out in their article, at the end of March the number of iPad apps in the app store was a mere 75,000. Reaching 100,000 today means roughly 280 apps were added each day since the end of March.

To put that in perspective, the total number of Android applications is around 200,000. Impressive yes, but less impressive is the anemic number of Android Apps optimized for their Honeycomb tablets, that number is estimated to be in the low hundreds.

Also, the HP TouchPad will only have between 300 and 400 native tablet applications when the device launches on Friday. HP has said the number of mobile Apps doesn't matter.

HP also released a statement saying the sun isn't essential to life on earth.

Obviously every other tablet maker is starting from behind. Like way behind. And sure the iPad had a ton of help piggybacking off the success of the iPhone. But, using those as excuses wont sell Xooms, Galaxy Tabs, or TouchPads. Only a thriving community of developers, and hungry consumers can do that, and right now it's easy to see Apple's got the best recipe.

Hey, Motorola Touchpad is coming out tomorrow. iPad was released >2 years ago. And still, as you said, the iPad gets to piggyback off of the iPhone's success.

While the ipad does have a lot of apps, the vast majority of those apps are just resized iphone apps.

So if this information is accurate., we'll soon have as many apps for Android Tablets as we do for the iPad.

They are apps made to run on the iPad. Usually the iPad app has more features and more information. Its the same with Android, the Android Tablet apps wont be some totally new apps, they will be the same apps on the phones designed and optimized for tablets.

I don't think there will be many Android tablet apps in the near future, it doesn't look like catching up. (meanwhile android phone app *is)
