89% of Global Tablet Internet Traffic Comes From An iPad
Research firm comScore released a new service called "Device Essentials" which allows digital traffic to be monitored by device, and according to their study the iPad is responsible for 89% of tablet internet traffic.
I guess Jobs wasn't too far off with his greater than 90% of the market comments.
The study analyzed the amount of non-computer traffic in a number of countries as well. Canada was the most iPad Hungry country with the iPad eating up 33.5% of non-computer traffic, which was almost equal to the iPhones 34.6% of non-computer traffic in the country.
Breaking down the usage between Wi-Fi and cellular data traffic, the study found only 47.5% of iPhone traffic occurred over Wi-Fi networks. In contrast 91.9% of iPad traffic occurred over Wi-Fi networks. Android phones used Wi-Fi networks the least at 21.7%, and Android tablet traffic occurred over Wi-Fi 65.2% of the time.
I guess this means Android users are on the run more often. Also, it confirms the overwhelming dominance of the iPad in the tablet market. The Nielsen study published earlier this year that pegged the iPads US market share at 82% appears to have been pretty accurate.
I wonder how long the till the tablet market turns into the MP3 player market of yesteryear. Other than iPods, Zunes, and cheap SanDisk MP3 devices, what options are there?

It must be over 90% when you take into account the iPads using software to mimic firefox or other browsers.
