Amazon Tablet Likely to Debut Before iPhone 5
Amazon is clearly sitting on what may very well be the worst kept secret in tech. Although CEO Jeff Bezos hasn't confirmed his company's forthcoming tablet, he's dropped enough hints for every tech reporter on the planet to stumble over. And based on the latest reports coming out of the far East, it looks like the unnamed Amazon tablet could reach consumers even before the iPhone 5 does this fall.
DigiTimes reported today that Amazon is moving full-steam ahead with tablet PCs and will "launch models as son as August-September, with targeted global sales of four million units for 2011, according to Taiwan-based component makers." Amazon is expected to make high-quality streaming content - movies and TV programming - available through the tablet.
The timing of launch is to meet the peak sales period prior to Thanksgiving in the US and the year-end holidays in the US and Europe, the sources pointed out.
Few concrete details are known about the expected Amazon tablet, except that dual-core and quad-core models will likely be produced, all of which will almost certainly run Android. What also remains to be seen, of course, is what Amazon will charge for the device. In order to compete, a lower-end price for a higher-end tablet would go a long way to help Amazon capture a chunk of Apple's gargantuan tablet market share. But if Amazon has reason to believe that people will pay up for an Amazon-branded tablet, the device will likely come with a higher price tag.

Even if Amazon is amazingly good at keeping secrets, it is so obvious that they will have a tablet sooner or later. In fact if they do not come out with one, people in charge should be fired.

This should be interestly. Will they fail like the other tablets? They will have to make a remarkable product to compete with apple because of the brand that apple has been able to create. When you think of smartphone you think of blackberry or apple. When you like of tablet you think of ipad.

Yes children, before you can have your dessert, you must eat your liver and brussel sprouts!
