Smart Cover Hacked to Work (sort of) on Original iPad
If you're among those who aren't willing to spring for the new iPad 2 just yet but would still like to enjoy Apple's new Smart Covers, you're in luck. As it turns out, the guys over at Three Russians Used A Pencil have effectively hacked the Smart Cover (sort of) to make it work with the original iPad (sort of).
Understandably, the hack required the procurement of 3/8” x 3/16” x 1/32” magnets - which, unfortunately, aren't the least expensive components to buy. Throw in some super glue and a bit of strategic planning and component placement, and you've got a brand new Smart Cover concealing the original Apple tablet. To see the modified Smart Cover in action, check out the brief video above.
Where the hack falls short is that the modified Smart Cover cannot wake up your iPad or, conversely, put it to sleep. What's more, the stand functionality is far from rock solid. But, all told, the Smart Cover can be used on your first generation iPad. And, perhaps from afar, someone might actually think you have the iPad 2

Why would anyone want to do this to their ipad, nonetheless buy a smart cover for their ipad 2. There are much better cases that actually protect you ipad
RIP Steve Jobs.. You changed the world

That seems like a lot of work when you could just buy one of these instead:
Incase Convertible Magazine Jacket for iPad review: Smart Cover without the iPad 2
To each their own, I guess.

That blue cover is easily the ugliest one available. It looks like those floor mats you used to put down in grade school gym class. I'd like to see some of the black or gray ones in action.

Eaze up guys...
I think it's pretty cool if someone wanted to use a smart cover for their 1st gen iPad. By all means if you like it then do this, if not then don't. That simple

yea the smart cover i a cool idea, waking and sleeping the ipad. but if your looking for protection for the entire ipad then no it does a horrible job at that. This is just someone having fun, i dont think they need to be ridiculed for it though
You don't like the iPad because you don't have one!
