Big Retail Push Planned for iPad 2 Next Week
The biggest names in retail will be in lockstep with Apple next Friday as the iPad 2 becomes available nationwide (March 11th). From the looks of ads that have turned up just 24-hours after Steve Jobs debuted the second generation Apple tablet at his company's media event yesterday in San Francisco, retail heavyweights like Best Buy and Walmart are believed to be planning to carry the iPad 2 from its first day of availability,
No stranger to Apple products, Best Buy began carrying the first-generation iPad (though not nationwide at all stores) right out of the gate, while Walmart similarly came on board several months later, first selling iPads in October 2010. Although Best Buy is confirmed to begin selling the iPad 2 on March 11th, Walmart has not yet corroborated reports of iPad 2 availability on launch day.
Unlike the Apple product launches of yesteryear, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant has grown close with no shortage of large retailers, all of which have cumulatively contributed greatly to the monstrous sales record of the first-generation iPad - 15 million and counting as of this writing. For Apple, releasing the iPad 2 at its retail stores alone will clearly not take place. Once again, Apple has made the launch of its newest product a retail team effort.

I wonder what all the stores are gonna do with the first iPads on March 11. Major discount on an outdated product? I hope so! If they lower the price enough, I'll get an iPad for sure.

They have already lowered the prices of the first gen iPads by $100 to clear out the stock.

If you take a look at the apple store on apple.com, you'll see that the first iPad is already discounted $100 for all models. Look under Special Deals, Clearance on the left side at the bottom of the main Apple Store page.

I am loving the new look of the iPad, I did sell my ipad 6 months ago because I knew this was coming out. The new one has the same feel of the original iphone which is prolly why I like it so much. .
I am very disapointed that the verizon version is not LTE. and that it does not have the retina display. but I guess the A5 makes up for it..

I've seen some retailers selling the 64GB wifi for under $500 already...it won't be long, before you can get a 1st gen for $400 or less woohoo!

If anything, the FIRST iPad feels like the FIRST iPhone. The iPad 2 is just an evolution of the product line, just as Apple has done with every other mobile device.
