iPad 2 Hints At 1MP Rear Camera & Proximity Sensor
Yesterday Matt had covered the possibility of the additional Rear Camera on the next generation iPad, and today we get even more reports of such, bringing more clarity to the "picture". Or in some cases, less, as many had hoped for a 5MP camera, the iPad camera will be closer to what you see in the 4th Gen iPod Touch.
The folks over at 9to5 Mac have dug into the iOS 4.3 SDK to find some interesting pieces of information inside a file named AVCaptureSession.plist, which is located within a folder called "K94", the rumored codename for the second-generation iPad.
Inside this Plist there is a description that says "Back Facing 1MP Photo". This means that the iPad should still be able to record 720p videos. So what do you think? Is a 1MP camera acceptable?
Digging deeper into the iOS 4.3 SDK, The Brazilian iPhone Blog has stumbled upon another unique piece of information, which pertains to a proximity sensor that would be used when opening or closing a case on the iPad. Ideally this would be a small time saver, allowing you to avoid the need to press the power or home button when opening your case. Nothing breathtaking, but still pretty cool.

Perfectely acceptable. It's apple, iPad 3 will have 5mp.
Besides no ones going to use an iPad to take photos, it's just there for FaceTime

Who really wants to be walking around town with a 10" tablet snapping pictures? lol... I don't.

True no 1 might walk around town taking pics but maybe at home?
How can they release a product in 2011 with a 1MP cam? I mean really for that don't even bother

Having the camera with 720p capability and front/rear video chat is fine with me. If I have an iPad on me, chances are I'm wearing pants (hopefully) and my iPhone is in my pocket. I'll take pictures with that.

Works for me...that fact that it will be there is enough! Apple will exploit it as time goes on with updates.

im sorry but thats dissappoiting for apple, like 1 mp? the original iphone was better than that, u guys seem to be happy, and if u are planning on buying this than i guess then thats ok, but realistically theres nothing topping from apple putting in a 5 mp or even a 3 mp camera, i understand the thought that u dont wanna be taking pictures with the big thing but why not? like an awesome camera wuld go great with a photo suite on the ipad am i right? im no fan of an ipad, but i have to say, apple is dropping the ball on this one, but sure as hell knows there market, next year we will see a better camera, and everyone will flip -.-

Very poor, even the new Toshiba tablet that comes out in the spring has a rear 5mp and 2mp front camera
I'm in the market for my first tablet in the next few months and at the moment the ipad isn't very high up on my list

Ok, a camera on a 7 inch is alright, but a TEN INCH?

If your buying a apple product for specs on paper, your buying the wrong product.
On paper a majority of android phones are better than iPhones
On paper many laptops are better than MacBooks.
But as we all know, it's not really about specs for apple consumers

1MP chips are not even being made anymore..so it's bull.
4MP/5MP chips are cheaper nowadays coz they are still in mass production.

Ha, my 10 year old Nokia has a better camera. Guess they need to keep 3MP for iPad 3 and 5MP for iPad 4, then add the flash for iPad 5. Apple continues to be backwards when adding features to their iDevices.

Why all the complaining anyways? If anything the iPod touch should have an iPhone like camera.
The iPad is a 10" iPod touch, it makes sense to put a iPod camera instead of an iPhone one. Besides the iPhone camera can't fit in an iPod touch body, maybe it's the same thing for the iPad
