Digg Founder Sparks iPad 2 Speculation

Even on the heels of one longstanding rumor (the Verizon iPhone) finally resulting in reality - at least as of next Tuesday's formal announcement - the rumor mill proves incapable of rest. This weekend, Digg founder and widely read tech guru/blogger Kevin Rose made it clear that tech journalists have it all wrong with regard to the second-generation iPad. According to Rose, we won't have to wait until spring for a glimpse of the iPad 2.
Shortly after Rose's initial prediction on Friday, he tempered his comments in a subsequent post - although not about the iPad 2's supposed arrival date. Instead, Rose backed away from claims that the iPad 2 will sport the same "Retina" display native to the current generation iPhone 4. Rather, the new iPad will simply deliver a higher resolution display than what the current model boasts.I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next "3-4 weeks", possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.
While Rose's words are being widely taken with a full shaker of salt let alone a single grain of it, a recent flurry of iPad 2 case leaks and physical iPad 2 prototypes/mockups (see above image) make an iPad 2 arrival certainly seem to be forthcoming. Rose's claims, however, suggest the new iPad's arrival is more imminent than simply forthcoming. And although Rose's past record of predicting Apple events/products has been accurate about half the time, recent reports from a broad variety of credible sources indicate that Apple has resumed blocking out vacation days for a three-week time frame beginning in late January, right around the time Rose claims the iPad 2 will be revealed.

I'll still just sit back and wait for Apple to WOW me yet again!
If it's verizon iPhone I'll pass.
If it's a iPad 2 then I guess my wife is getting a iPad 1.
I got the cash on standby.

I could've told you it wouldn't come with a "retina display." 326ppi would require a screen that has absurdly high pixel count. Yes it will be higher res, but there is a ton of room between the current resolution and retina display.
There's actually a thread here on MMI that goes into why a retina display will not happen on the iPad but I'm in my phone so I can't go find it right this second.

Apple better hurry up with the iPad 2, because from what I saw @ CES there are a feast of tablets coming out, and as of right now the Motorola Xoom looks more impressive.

I remember the days when Kevin was just a nerdy kid who had a spot on Leo Laporte's TechTV programs like Screen Savers and Call for Help. Who knew he would be this successful?

Hmm... Could it be a iPad 2 on VERIZON!!!! Thats why they couldnt do it at CES... Because they kinda just cant since Apple wasnt there.... And this is really special! It would be a big announcement about a Verizon SPECIFIC iPad!
Username is 3GS, but theres stuff past that:
iPhone 4
iPad
Macbook Pro

This is pointless.
Of course it will have a higher resolution screen, but not quite retina.
Of course it will have dual facing cameras
Of course it will be announced within the next 3-4 weeks. (It will be announced, but wont be available immediately)
Just because he's kevin rose, we're all saying the same stuff, hes just so
The only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!

Wouldn't a higher resolution mean the games / apps would look bad (just like what happened now)?
I'll wait to see what happens. Most likely prices stay the same but capacity doubles and cameras front and rear. Maybe a slightly better screen but not retina.

The screen resolution is fine now. The camera is not a draw either.
Bring on the USB port.
Bring on a gig of ram.

If it wasn't so laggy, the model now would be great.

The Digg guy doesn't know what he's talkng about. He just put all the facts together and made an estimated guess, something anyone with half a brain could do. He probably has no inside sources. And then there are the news companies that have inside sources inside the Digg guy to see if they can confirm his telling the truth.
sigh.
its a crazy world.

I bet they'll double the ram memory in it if anything.
Yes of course it's gonna be a better res screen, and the cameras...
But enough with the speculation, let's just chill until the official announcement.

I think the iPad2 is right around the corner as well. Apple has a lot of manufacturing to do, with the Verizon iPhone and iPad2. I would like Retina Display for iPad2 but it's not the have all end all! I can deal with "better resolution" for now. I mean the first iPad's resolution was just eclipsed by the Moto Xoom...it took almost a year hahahaa. Apple will once again trump all competitors as they always do. And stop with the USB talk as it's not going to happen. What would Apple allow you to do with it? Transfer songs directly without iTunes...YAA RIGHT!
I sold my iPad 2 months back and have no regrets. I'll get the iPa2 the day it is released and have the BEST TABLET on the market as always :]
