Fling Game Controller Coming Soon to iPad
Ten One Design is currently taking preorders for their new “Tactile Game Controller for iPad.” Fling game controllers will set you back $25 for one or $38 for a 2-pack. If you’ve ever wanted a real game controller to use with an iPad, then this may be what you’ve been looking for.
The controller is made of high-grade resin and attaches to the iPad with a pair of suction cups. It has been designed so players will feel like they’re using a regular game controller with their iPad and it even centers itself when you release it. The device uses a spiral shape to give players tactile feedback and the center of the ring uses an electrically conductive material that the iPad can pick up on. Games that use virtual joysticks will benefit most from this device. Some games are better suited for Fling than others of course.
Touch Arcade got a preproduction test unit and tried it out with a variety of games. Super Mega Worm uses a virtual joystick and adding a Fling game controller to it just made the game that much more enjoyable to play. When playing N.O.V.A 2 they commented, “I almost felt like I was cheating in N.O.V.A. 2 HD [$6.99] my overall accuracy improved so much. It's really incredible just how much of a difference it makes, almost making N.O.V.A. 2 feel like an XBOX game with a real controller.”
Unfortunately, Fling is too large to fit on an iPhone or iPod Touch as it would block too much of the screen to be enjoyable. Hopefully, Ten One Design will be able to come up with a smaller version of Fling for the iPhone in the near future.

Now I might buy that, you just can't beat a tactile controller for playing games
I wish I had a miniature elephant that fit in the palm of my hand. I would pick him up and he'd lift up his trunk and stand on his back legs and say PRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPPHHHHHHHH and I would say yes little elephant i love you too.

These pseudocontrollers are getting kind of ridiculous. Why can't some company make a Bluetooth controller w/ SDK and be done with it? Maybe even build it into a case form factor like the original iControlPad prototypes? (new one looks ridiculous, should have stuck with old PSP style) The Wii Remote works so great with emulators on iPad.

That looks really nice. Definitely would feel like you have a lot more control during a game.

I'm interested in knowing if this will work with a screen protector like the invisibleshield.
If so... I might just be in the market, but I can't see how it would work without damaging it.

This could solve some of the 'big finger' complaints that people have.
I have fairly small-normal sized fingers but I still have 'roll' or 'bleed over' problems where my finger does a lateral roll (?) and makes contact on the sides instead of the bottom pad of my finger.
I could see a D-pad and button set based on this concept.
On a related note, I like my Pogo Stylus but it still isn't 'perfect'. I'd like a stylus that has more of a solid point instead of a spongy point (and an actual point instead of blunt) and yet won't scratch.

I would be afraid of it rubbing on the glass or rubbing through the screen protector sooner or later and damaging the glass. Sometimes when people are playing games they get carried away! lol
The person in the video was setting there all nice and relaxed... how about using that with one of those shoot em up games?
