Default Skyfire for iPad Now Includes Social Networking

Skyfire for iPad is now available in iTunes ($4.99). The iPhone version was released back in November and it sold so well that developers had to remove it from the App Store temporarily. Developers underestimated the demand for Flash video on the iPhone and users soon overwhelmed the Skyfire servers. These issues were soon worked out, however, and Skyfire has been a huge success ever since.

Skyfire is a full-featured web browser, but its biggest claim to fame is its ability to play Flash movies. Flash is probably never going to be released for the iOS and many websites still only stream their videos using Flash. Hulu is one such website and unfortunately, they still block Skyfire. Apple continues to push HTML5 and many websites now offer videos in both formats.

Skyfire for iPad is not just a rehash of the iPhone version. It is a full update that includes many user requested features. The biggest new feature for this version is undoubtedly its social networking integration. Skyfire now supports Facebook and Twitter with dedicated buttons on the lower menu bar. Using Facebook QuickView you can keep “your Facebook page loaded in the cloud for easy, one touch access to your news feed, profile, friends, inbox, events and places.” There is even a dedicated “like” button that allows you to “like” or “unlike” any page on the internet. Now, you can keep the whole world apprised of your web browsing habits. Twitter QuickView also lets you keep up with all of your Twitter feeds, without needing to leave the browser.

This version of Skyfire for iPad seems to take all of the best features from previous versions and adds new ones that most people will find useful. With the inclusion of Facebook and Twitter support and the ability to watch many Flash based videos that were previously unavailable on the iOS, Skyfire is a worthy alternative to Apple’s mobile Safari. I wouldn’t hold your breath though, if you’re still waiting for Hulu support.

It's good to see them pushing out updates for those that are interested in flash on an idevice. I wonder how much they have beefed up their servers.

Yep, It's Cute I Guess, But with NO WAY to import Bookmarks, it's kind of a Pain. Some Simple (seemingly Small things) could make this a GREAT product...

Why the HELL would I would I want to "Now, you can keep the whole world apprised of your web browsing habits"????? The less ANYONE knows what I do or don't do online, the better I like it. I really DON'T understand why anyone would like this feature. Is it a younger generation thing? Am I finally "Old"????

    [OFF-TOPIC]

Hulu is really pissing me off with their stinking rules.

    [ON-TOPIC]

... unfortunately, they still block Skyfire

I have netflix to watch all the vids I want on my iPhone, flash would be nice for one site only, hulu, but they are going overboard now with charging for hulu plus to watch on devices... not to mention the HUGE increase in ad's... I just use hulu on my laptop...

Bought Skyfire when it first came out, thinking it was going to be all that. It wasn't. It isn't. Complete waste of money IMHO. I wouldn't pay .99 cents for it in retrospect.

I got it when it came out and my personal opinion, it sucks!! I am never gonna use it again, I think I had it installed for a week and deleted it. regarding Hulu, I don't mind since I have a slingbox so I can watch live TV and all the on demand I want without paying anything a month with no ads and I have all the channels I get on my house, I never even miss a game anymore LOL

I thought the app worked great. Allowed me to watch the daily show and Colbert report. I've been waiting for an iPad version though. I'm happy about this
You don't like the iPad because you don't have one!

Yeah, I don't understand all the negative comments about Skyfire. I love the app, loads much faster than safari. I have Safari hidden via Poof. I just wish there was a way to set it as my default browser for when I open links in emails and other apps.

if you are jailbroken I think there is an app that lets you set the default browser. don't recall the name though.

Yay now another app that has the ability to tell people who dont care what I'm doing. I remember the days when I had to bore and annoy people in person.
