Default Northern Europe Finally Getting the iPad

In the ongoing effort by Apple to expand the iPad's reach across the globe as much as possible before the end of 2010, now comes word that Northern Europe may be next on the list to see the tablet's arrival before the dawn of 2011. In recent days, many country-specific Apple pages throughout Northern Europe have begun advertising the iPad and carriers for 3G connectivity for the first time.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Nordic countries on tap to get the iPad include Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. So far, the regional carriers advertised to provide 3G service to new iPad owners are Telenor ASA, TeliaSonera AB, Tre, and Tele2 AB. It isn't yet clear if the iPad will be available through the carriers as well as Apple in Northern Europe, but it doesn't appear so. TeliaSonera, for example, says it will only provide 3G service for the tablet. It won't actually stock and sell the device. As of this writing, data plans and contract terms have not been confirmed or revealed publicly.

Since the iPad was formally unveiled ten months ago, demand has consistently outpaced supply in most places where the tablet has become available. In Northern Europe, initial demand is also expected to be substantial given the iPad's cosmopolitan reputation in places where the device is not yet even available. During last spring's global chaos surrounding the Icelandic volcano eruption, for example, Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was stranded in New York City for an extended period of time as most Europe-bound passengers were similarly prevented from returning home. Throughout the ordeal and his time in New York, The Huffington Post reported that Stoltenberg was "running his government from Apple's tablet."

I find it ironic that the countries with the one of the highest level of technology are getting the iPad so late. I really wish the Market here would just reject the iPad entirely cause clearly apple doesn't care and doesn't deserve our attention. Besides, those that do want an iPad around here, most already have it.
