"iPad Killer" to Sell for $950 in UK: Report

A purported leak from the parent company of an electronics chain in Great Britain is giving the first hint of what the new Samsung Galaxy Tab might cost. The entry level model of the so-called 'iPad killer' will retail for £599.99 - the equivalent of $950 US - without a contract, according to Paul Lamkin at Pocket-Lint, who cites anonymous sources at the DSG Group. This compares to £529 for an unlocked iPad with similar specs (though the iPad has a screen almost three inches larger than the 7-inch Galaxy Tab).
DSG Group is the owner of UK retailers Currys, Dixons and PC World, which have said they'd be selling the Galaxy Tab through both unlocked and carrier-subsidized arrangements. The cost of the Galaxy Tab with a contract is unknown as yet, but it's instructive to compare the £599.99 ($948 US) recommended retail price for an unlocked 7-inch, 16GB Galaxy Tab to the 9.7-inch SIM-free iPad WiFi+3G at £529, or about $840, on the Apple UK Online Store. [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Device-Cortex-Android/dp/B0042D75TU]Amazon's UK store[/ame] also has the device available for preorder at the £599.99 price.
Last week, Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Tab would be available in the UK from November 1st. The tablet will be sold by the four major US carriers by the end of the year, but details on timing and pricing have not yet been released.

This is far too expensive IMO... Apple is usually known for having the HIGHER priced product, not the other way around!
As a side note, does anyone else notice what looks to be a phone app at the top left of that galaxy tab? Does this mean it will natively support phone calls?------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

3" larger?
I think if you look measure the area....
The iPad is *twice* the size of the 7" tablet.

Wow I was expecting a price of around $399 for this! At that price range they will NEVER kill the pad or even over take it.

Samsung is retarded.
Just a poser company trying to copy. Never Original.
Galaxy. Now this BS.
Costs more, Smaller Screen. What are you thinking?
Some executive decided to name it "IPAD Killer".
I know I used to work there.Last edited by yotaiji012; 10-04-2010 at 11:33 AM. Reason: Added to it

not true, samsung screens were used in some pretty high end and well know plasma tvs
also, dells cutting edge latitude x300 (the macbook air of its day) was a sammy built underneath dells labels and chassis. they often are the underlying tech to some pretty high quality and innovative tech, so that blanket statement, IMHO, isnt true.
iDevice-less, for once. flirting with Andy Roid atm, looking to rekindle romance if the right handset comes along
