Default iOS 4.2 Beta for iPad Released to Developers

That's right, its here folks. iOS 4.2 Beta has been released to Developers in the Apple center. This is great news for iPad owners, however it may also delay jailbreaking a little further, assuming that iOS 4.2 is right around the corner.

The new iOS update is expected to include a number of new features, including multitasking, folders, along with printing and the ability to use AirPlay via itunes with your iPad, juts like the Airport Express.

The update is currently available at developer.apple.com. I would imagine there are a ton more features that have yet to be uncovered, but it's great to see iOS 4 coming to the iPad. Stay tuned for updates

The official 4.2 update is slated for November. 2 months away

This release is labeled as Build Number 8C5091e. The update is available for iPad, iPhone (3G, 3GS, and 4) and iPod touch (second-, third-, and fourth-generation). iOS 4.2 for iPad comes in at 514 MB, where as the iPhone 4 firmware comes in at 617 MB. It does seem that the firmware loads a little faster, but that could just be in my head

Sweet, can't wait to get multitasking and folders on my iPad!

What sad is that multitasking isn't on there already, same with folders. I guess they need to old stuff off so it sounds amazing when they finally get to it. Just like the camera. You can't release a new model unless you leave stuff off to just add on later so your blind followers will keep buying it.

That's been Apple's business model from the get-go. No surprises there.

i don't understand how this may delate the release of the jailbreak since the new jailbreak is going to be done by using the "bootrom" exploit. Meaning apple can't patch the hole with a software update. correct me if i'm wrong please.

Please do not fill up this thread with begging for your UUID on a dev account. All previous and further requests will be deleted. Someone is welcome to start a new thread soley for this purpose. Devs if you are going to sell slots please do so via PM or in the BST section of the forum.

Repeat. No not post solely for the purpose of requesting a dev to PM you to add your UUID to his account. Start a NEW thread if you'd like.

As I understand it, the new exploit is hardware based and can't be closed by new firmware. So, the new JB won't necessarily be delayed by impending firmware releases. But that's up to the dev team and co.

Default Question about developer sharing betas
I just started to develop around 4 months ago and I was wondering if its legal in the first place to share the ios beta version? This would only require a valid UDID wouldnt it?

You're wrong. Now you're also corrected. The new exploit uses the A4 SoC, not the baseband. As that exploit is tethered only (so far as I know), I can only hope a new exploit is found or someone figures out how to use this while keeping the jailbreak untethered.
They can have my jailbreak when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

So the beta is definitely worth losing jailbreak to update?

Can you elaborate more on it besides multitasking, folders, printing. What are the other features that make the tablet useful to you?

AirPlay is awesome. The brightness control in the dock and Rotation lock in either orientation rocks. 20 apps in folders is pretty nice to have.
