It means that if you want a phone with hdmi out, or 8mp camera (I hope you get the picture) you can wait and purchase the one you want because the OS IS open. Whether or not the manufacturer place a custom skin on top is up to them why? Because it IS open source. As far as app developing depends on the SDKs being released. Android is also Linux based, is it perfect no, but NEITHER was iOS 1.1. As a tmobile user that used an iphone for 2 years and still have it for use and just got my wife a 3gs (her 2g is showing its age) I'm baffled when mac users bash android. Just showing that you're a true fanboy.

Can you REALLY say "meh" to a 24 hour app refund policy? There are plenty of apps that I ended up regretting I bought. Even if those apps total 5-10 bucks, hey, that is lunch for many people flushed down the toilet. I suppose there are some people who figure "it's only five bucks" but I think there are plenty who do not. And no, we won;t carry around the device FOR pictures, but it's nice to have the option. Up until two months ago we had the same camera in our iPhones and still NOTHING in the iPad. When the next gen iPad launches with a camera, Apple will claim it revolutionary, and people (including yourself I bet) will eat it up as being a new feature. Sounds like you are just trying to justify yourself here. You used to be a respected poster here (at least in my eyes) but lately your posts have all pretty much been fanboy comments. What happened to the old Poseidon?

I agree with you man. I used to look forward to reading what this guy had to say. Nowadays I could easily just skip it if it wasn't for his damned orange text :P
For the record, I am not an Android user. But you have missed the point of open source entirely. The idea here is to not be locked down the way Apple locks you down. Sure there is jailbreak, but at the end of the day we are worrying about backing things up, not updating until someone more knowledgeable says we are allowed to, and essentially tweaking our UI to our heart's content only to have to do it all over again with the next iOS update (and let's face it, most of us are a few LARGE updates behind simply because we can;t be bothered to do that). Using open source software is not about "feeling like a hacker" as you seem to think it is...Last edited by sziklassy; 08-31-2010 at 11:09 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

Or you could say Apple doesn't necessary blow away the competition in specs but when it comes to having all those components work together then they really have set the benchmark. i.e. droid incredible is close to iphone 4. both have 1ghz processors, both have at least 512mb ram/512mb rom, similar screen sizes but incredible has horrendous battery life with a 1300mah battery and only mediocre pictures for a 8MP camera where as iphone 4 has a 1100mah battery(if i remember correctly) and has infinitely better battery life and takes great pictures with a seemingly lesser spec'd 5MP camera.
just like with the ladies, its not necessarily the size but how you use it. apple, my friends, knows how to use it.

It's a pretty cool android tablet but I will still hold out for the iPad2 and see what's coming.

I think you're post is quite stupid. Having HDMI out or an 8MP camera has nothing to do with open source software.
I think you're the one missing the point.
99% of UI tweaks are ugly, useless, pointless, and stupid. 16 year old kids skipping school don't know sh1t about UI.
You can jailbreak only when the jailbreakers decide you can jailbreak. They release it when it suits them, not when it suits you. So in essence, you are their b1tch, as well as Apple's b1tch.
Don't wait any longer. Sell your Iphone and buy an Android.
