PC World: iPad 2 to Launch Before End of 2010

PC World is reporting that Apple may release a new iPad in December. According to the report, Apple is tinkering with a new tablet that sports a 7-inch touchscreen (a mini-iPad, so to speak) and may roll out before the end of 2010. The source of the report is the Economic Daily News, major Chinese-language Taiwanese newspaper. This news comes on the heels of a source code discovery deep within iOS 4 that not only references a CDMA iPhone but also the next iPad.

It should be mentioned, however, that this is the publication that first reported the iPad's definitive existence while many others still regarded the "Apple tablet" to be a mythical device that would likely not manifest any time soon. With some degree of credibility in tact, the publication follows last week's Digitimes report indicating that Taiwanese companies have already begun assembling the forthcoming 7-inch iPad.

The Economic Daily piece references a number of Taiwanese companies that have secured "component contracts" for the device presently - and unofficially dubbed - iPad 2. Chimei Innolux will supply 7-inch LCD screens, notes the report, which utilizes the same in-plane switching technology of the first generation iPad. Meanwhile, touchscreen technology for the screens will be from Cando Corporation. Compal Electronics will assemble the new, smaller iPads.

Hey guys I have an idea! you know that big ol' ipod touch we blew up? Lets make it 7 inches and change nothing! After that, we could make a ipad with a 3.5 inch screen and call it the ipad micro!

Seems like a terrible idea to me but Apple knows how to make money. Looks like they are holding off on the front facing camera on the iPad for at least another 10 months. Then they pump Facetime on the iPad and get everyone to upgrade. It's really annoying.

I looked at buying an iPad when they came out but felt it was just a little too big. 7" screen may work better for me. We'll see in December (maybe).

I hope this is true! I already bought one, and I love it. But maybe the 2nd gen will be better for all of us. They were kinda taking a chance with the 1st gen, so hopefully they make this second one perfect!

So now we need a device between the iPad and an iPod touch? Seriously this is BS. And guess what, all the apple fanboys will buy that crap. I'll stick with my iPhone 4 that fits in my pocket and does everything AND MORE than the other touch screen devices.

Why make it smaller and mess with battery life? If you want something that weights less just wait. I am sure Apple will try to give the second gen iPad a little less junk in the trunk.

lol! I don't believe this story at all. It makes no sense what so ever. I think the current size should stay as it is.
