Microsoft Officially Out of The Tablet Market for 2010

Business Insider is reporting that Microsoft is out of the tablet market at least for the remainder of this year. Despite numerous reports to the contrary - often from Microsoft itself - the company will not churn out a competitor for the iPad in late 2010 as widely expected. The reason given for the delay is Microsoft's "reliance on Intel."
In recent weeks, Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer has belabored his argument that Microsoft has no higher priority than jumping head first into the tablet market - a market that is presently dominated by only one device. But the rumored Microsoft "iPad killer" won't happen at least until 2011 as the tech giant says that it will get a boost "sometime after the new year when Intel brings its new Oak Trail processor to market."
Essentially, Microsoft wants to get it right the first time to best ensure that its initial tablet offering will simply be the best it can be and knock Apple from its perch right out of the gate. Of course, that's easier said than done as there's no telling how many millions of iPads will already be in customers' hands by the time Microsoft finally does, in fact, introduce their product. If Business Insider's estimates are accurate, by 2011, "iPad 2 will be on the market" and serve up a "beautiful retina display, and front facing camera for FaceTime chats" with some 12-14 million units sold. So, if everything goes according to schedule, we won't see a real Windows tablet until this time next year.

Well I appreciate this post. Since Apple is the dominant tablet maker I can see how this post is relevant that Windows won't be making any iPad killers anytime soon.

And in other news, Microsoft's new entry intp the smartphone category is a piece of crap, and would be better off if it joined their thoughts on tablets.

actually by sure numbers alone, ipad will be the first to get virus's, people have this thought process that thinks apple cant get viruses, im sorry to inform you, but they can, they just don't have enough market share for anyone to give a ****. so if a tablet gets a virus, because ipad has the biggest market share, guess were the viruses will end up
. IDIOT !

I do hope that they wont try to copy the iPad, cuz the iPad is not at all a tablet computer.

So all along I thought the iPad was a oversized iPod touch with some ios features from the iPhone like 3G. meh. I wish it were a computer where it had a cd drive, USB port and a OS that you could load software on (not just apps). So in my own definition and opinion and the iPad is not really a tablet computer. It's a freaking large iPod touch on steroids. So for other manufactures to want to kill the iPad. Just produce a similar size device with a desktop/laptop based OS that can also run apps and play blue ray cd's... Whala your iPad killer... Ohhh and great battery and no blue screen of deaths pls...(this means u MS) :-). Lastly... Love the fact my i4 is JB!!!!!! Sweeeeeet!

This sucks. I was hoping for a real tablet to be released this year. The ipad is crippled. Sure it is nice to toy around with, but it falls short of my wants/needs.

This isn't good. At least for me... It dissapoints me that i'm not gonna have a Windows Tablet... Viruses? I'll put Avast! AntiVirus on it like my Desktop. All I want to see from Microsoft is a tablet that has THE SAME PERFORMANCE AND POWER of a regular laptop running Windows 7. If Windows 7 is in a MicrosoftPad and runs smoothly, quick.... And acts as a FULL LAPTOP... (Installs .exe, download files, has java, flash, just everything a Full Windows 7 can do, this will certainly be an iPad Killer... This is a big mission for Microsoft and hope they achieve it
