Thread: Hints About iPad Retina Display

  1. #21
I doubt they will do this because the iPad screen already is great looking and the distance you hold an iPad to your face is much greater than an iPhone. I think part of the reason they did it to the iPhone is now the iPhone and iPad are pretty close is resolution so programs will look MUCH better on the iPad that were meant for iPhone. I think that was their plan.

If this display comes to the iPad I'm gona be f@cking mad it didn't come on the iPad 3G first apple needs to get with it

It's highly unlikely. Note iPhone / iPad now got the same processor and same display size. Apple isn't about to change that anytime soon

    Agreed!

Although it would be pretty awesome to see a retina display on the iPad

If they bring it out, we'll be getting one if they stick with a $499 entry price...

The iPad and iPhone have nothing close to the same display size, the iPad is 1024x768 and the iPhone is 960x640.

And if the iPad were to get a larger retina display, they would have to more than double the pixel density because the iPad display has a lower pixel density than the old iPhones and iPod touches. With the same pixel density as the iPhone 4, we would be looking at a 2529x1897 display on the iPad. which is similar in pixels to the 27" iMac. This would be absurd especially considering the massive power drain this would be, and how little media there is to consume at such high a resolution.
