A Swing and a Miss for the iPad at Yankee Stadium
Forget unruly players and quarrelsome coaches. Apple's iPad is the only thing getting tossed out of the ball park these days. At least at Yankee Stadium, that is.
Reports began surfacing in the last few days that Yankees fans are being asked to leave their iPads at home before taking in a game at the old ball park. Now that more than one fan has been turned away or asked to stow away their tablet, we know the reports are, indeed, factual. And the "restrictive" policy is reportedly rubbing no shortage of sports fans the the wrong way.
So, what's the beef with the iPad, you ask? It turns out that the tablet is included in the general laptop ban from Yankee Stadium, a stringent security policy enacted and, apparently, heavily enforced at the billion-dollar ballpark in the Big Apple. Of course, Yankees fans are the only ones in New York who have to part with their iPads while taking in a ballgame. The New York Mets still allow fans to bring their iPads to Citi Field.
And you thought the cross-town rivalry was bitter before!
If the policy at Yankee Stadium, however, seems a little hypocritical, you would be right, especially since iPhones and iPods are allowed in the facility without issue. But stadium officials draw the line at iPads - a peculiar choice considering how much was spent installing a state of the art WiFi system. But at the end of the day, the iPad does, indeed, fall under the heading of “any other devices that may interfere with and/or distract any sports participant, other patron, audio or audio/visual telecast or recording of the game or any technology-related service.”

Makes sense. I'd be annoyed if someone was playing with their iPad right next to me throughout the game.

I'd think breaking out the MLB app at a ball game to check replays, stats and other games would be a huge conversation starter.

If you take your iPad to a stadium you either:
a) have no life and would pay money to sit down and use your iPad.
b) can't get enough of your fanboy lifestyle and have the need to show it off in public massIf I helped you out, please use the Thanks button ------------------------->

Seriously? What kind of a-hole feels the need to bring their iPad, or laptop (unless you're a journalist of some sort) to a baseball game?
