Not exactly true, as overseas also means Japan, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, etc where very fast 3G networks are available. Hell, I have WiMax on my Fujitsu subnote book LOOX U, and I get 40 Mbps at 4500 yen per month unlimited data, and coverage is very good here already. As for traveling with Idevices, I just had an unlimited data plan in Chiang Mai, AIS, 600 baht for a month, with ton of minutes thrown in and a special offer for international calls at 1 baht per minute, lol. So US 18,50 for 3G service, unlimited data.

    YOU THINK THAT'S EXPENSIVE!?!??!?!?! HAHAHAHAHHAHA
You guys should see what it's like here in Canada. I work for one of the 4 big providers and here's what our international data plans options look like:
    10mb for $50
    25mb for $100
    75mb for $225
And you think you guys are getting Pwned?!??!

...I live in Canada (Ottawa)....we have minimal wi-fi hotspots...
when I was in Florida...I was connected constantly, every mall, every store, every granny that doesn't know what WEP is....kept me thoroughly connected! So go take your pad for a walk....and see what you find!

Default Use iPad 3G in Israel?
My son is living in Israel. I would love to get him a 3G iPad but I don't want to pay AT&T's international roaming rates. Would the iPad work on 3G if my son simply bought a 3G sim card from an Israeli carrier and put it in his iPad?

200mb for $200!! That reminds me of the plans for when internet was first available on phones. Another reason this ipad pissed me off.

It is very expensive; but if you did go to Europe and left your AT&T sim in your phone, and used 200mb, it could cost you $3,994.00! if I did my math correctly. (Data roaming rate in Germany is $0.0195 per kilobyte).

I don't understand all of the outrage here. These prices are on par with any other overseas roaming data service. You have to understand that this data is being used on other network's cell towers which ATT has to pay for. I am sure it is much less than what we end up paying for it, but that's business. Also, the damn device comes factory unlocked. You can feel free to pop in a data sim that your purchase wherever you are. Plenty of places in Europe and Asia utilize micro-sim. Those that don't, junst modify the sim as mentioned above.

Yes. It just needs to be a micro-sim (or a normal simcard cut down to size)

    $200.00 for 200 MB?

    That should be criminal.

the 3g will not work, they use 2100 for their umts so the device will pick up the edge but not the 3g connection.
