iPad 3G Sales Show Lots of Tablets To Jailbreak!

Now that the Spirit JB is live, it looks like there's no shortage of iPads out there to jailbreak. Of course, we all knew there was big anticipation ahead of this weekend's iPad 3G launch, but now there are numbers (estimates, at least) to shed some light on how well Apple managed to successfully monetize the second major iPad release in a month.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says that the iPad 3G likely sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 300,000 units since Friday's nationwide launch. Munster gave the estimate to investors in a note that was based on research and inquiries with some fifty Apple stores. 49 of the 50 stores looked into have already sold out of the iPad 3G. The initial sales success of the 3G closely resembles the thunderous success of the basic WiFi model's arrival on April 3rd.

"Near-term, this may put downward pressure on launch day/weekend statistics, but long-term we see it as a positive, as consumers are definitely interested in the iPad as a new category," says Munster. "In the first several quarters, we believe Apple will sell about 60% Wi-Fi only iPads and 40% 3G models."

It should be noted, however, that Munster's sales estimates during the first weekend of the iPad's release proved to be way off the mark. Munster said the first weekend of the WiFi model's release that between 600k and 700k iPads were sold. That number was eventually revised to about 300k sales for the first wave, with about 500k sold by the end of the first full week of the iPad's availability.

Before the iPad 3G was introduced, industry analysts had estimated that iPad sales have already topped one million units. As it now stands, Munster estimates that iPad sales for 2010 will ultimately clock in at about 4.3 million units.

If memory serves me correct i read somewhere that there will not be any need for an unlock cause the Ipad is not lock to any certain carrier. Its already unlocked. I believe someone from the Dev Team has had SMS working on it with a T-Mobile sim.

iPad is unlocked. Will work with most micro sims on a GSM network.
