The baseband on the iPad 3G is the same as on the 3GS. Porting CoreTelephony to iPad is very possible

I don't see porting it to actually use it as a phone. Its more of a proof of concept thing.

I would use as a phone one less device I have to Carry on me,I use my iPad more than I use my phone daily
