I know I may get bashed for saying this but $499 Ipad to use as a car/audio head unit is exactly what the ipad is for!!! I would not walk into a coffee shop holding an iPAD. The 3G version would make PERFECT sense for Full Internet, GPS, and email. What these guys are doing is brilliant

I've knocked the iPad before and I still don't see it as a justifiable purchase, but I'll be damned if that isn't the most awesome head unit for a car that I've ever seen. You see kids driving around in their dropped Honda Civics with their S00PER K3WL fold-up touch-screen units, but they don't hold a candle to this, not by a long shot. It's a shame that it'll cost at least $629 +the price of the d/a converter to set this up though.

Innovative? Not really.
Had a full Windows XP computer system in my car before Apple start selling their first iPhone. Linked to my phone getting internet, when near my home I have WiFi so I can download my music from my computer to the car computer. Yes I can even play with flash

Seriously people have been putting TV, computers, video game systems in cars since 2000. When the LCD monitors being made a shop has put it in the car. I've seen 30" IPS panel mounted onto a car, this 10" IPS screen does not even measure up.
If you think this is "innovative" you are seriously delusional or computer and cars is new to you.
Just because iPad came out does not mean this is the only time it has been done.

I have a 7" xenarc touchscreen in my dash being driven by winxp and roadrunner carpc software. Put it in about 4 years ago and still works great. It's my stereo, gps, etc.

I must admit, Since getting the iPhone it became pretty much a graphical EQ.

This looks SICCCKKKK!!!! I have an AV cable in the back of my car stereo/7" screen, in which i do pretty much the same thing. It's tight to be able to watch my SlingPlayer(sports events) in my car. But, i definately envy the iPad mod! Great job guys!!!
