Bill Gates being jealous of the iPad is like Obama being jealous of not being able to see Russia from his backyard like Palin.

You're all still missing the point..
The iPad isn't designed to be a Macbook or a Netbook.. It's designed to do a FEW core functions. Browsing the web is one of em.
It's all I use my old Netbook for, so I'll be getting one of these forsure.

Okay. The iPad is a giant iPod touch. Yes. We have established that. But what you guys fail to see is the Big picture. Your close minded and see it as a big iPod touch that will only run the app store apps we see today. And I can see where your disappointment stems from when you think of it That way. but Once the ipad hits the market the AppStore will start up a new market for ipad specific apps. I know the format and all around quality and usability of the apps is going to drastically improve... And they will be something that will give your osx apps a run for their money. Genious really. He will design watered down ipad versions of all the apps you already own on your MacBook and make you buy them again. And a lot of us will.
I think this will be a big suprise to everyone.

^Regardless, they've purposely fitted it with state of the fart technology so they have something to upgrade to into the forseeable future, then call it a "revolution."
It's pretty pathetic.

This simply pisses me off...for God's sake, stop pulling out the jealousy card.
Gates and Jobs have given credit to each other where credit is due. This time, Gates isn't impressed... Is it that bad that the former CEO of Microsoft doesn't like it, just because he's the former CEO of Microsoft? I'm not impressed by it that much either. Am I jealous too?Last edited by dale1v; 02-12-2010 at 06:44 AM.

The thing that is funny about all this is, few years ago there were PC tablets.. notebooks that you could fold the screen over and use it like a tablet... i think HP had them and well.. years later i still see loads of notebooks. The Ipad is just the MAC version of htat .. but like the iphone the possibilities are watered down. Like having a Bugatti Veron but it only comes with first gear and a top speed of 60 mph. Not until Apple lets go and releases a product that gives you all the "standard" features will i be impressed. Ipad is just another example of apples short sidedness. And i know these simple things are possible casue my Iphone is jailbroken and it 1000 times better then the "standard" Iphone. Ill buy a Macbook before id buy a Ipad
"Jane, get me off this crazy thing !!!!"

He's totally right, if you think about it what's actually new in the iPad?

I certainly am NOT impressed with the ipad
...bring the price down and add the double sided cameras, a usb port (or mini usb connector), increase the capacity, add an expansion slot for additional memory, and then you can count me in

I agree with Dale. People aren't freaking out because most of us are unimpressed, but let the former Microsoft giant say something and then it is boo hoo...boo hoo.

A Dell mini and snowleopard combined gives you more power than the ipad at a lower price.

I don't agree that Bill Gates is jealous because that is based on money and Bill gates is one of the richest men in the world. Envy is more likely because he he didn't create one first.

I'm sure Apple is holding out half of the tech they could be putting in the iPad. Look at how the iPhone gets updated every year. They're keeping the camera, OSX capability etc. for an update further down the road.

The iPad WILL be a game changer, and netbooks DO suck. I have one, seriously - unbalanced, hard to type or use tiny trackpad. Horrible experience.
Just my opinion - but wait until the apps specifically for iPad start rolling out...you'll want one.
