EXCLUSIVE: iPad Will Be Available for Pre-Order
In a piece of news I haven't seen anywhere yet, a contact of ours who works at a retail outlet says that iPad pre-ordering is definitely in the works. Though Apple could likely rack up enormous sales by putting the device on the market today, seven weeks or so ahead of its launch date, they have not done so, with one observer opining that the delay is likely due to the lack of FCC authorization for the new device.
Our contact (who wishes to remain anonymous for continuing-to-be-employed reasons), passed on some information he got at a meeting about the iPad:
My store manager gave our store a little briefing on the upcoming iPad launch, and he said that customers WILL be able to pre-order and reserve iPad devices. Apple has not announced this yet, or put it in motion. They are waiting until all the correct systems are in place.
Van Buskirk noted the almost undreadable, very fine print at the bottom of the "Introducing iPad" email many of us got this week:
Some features and applications are not available in all areas. Application availability and pricing are subject to change. This device has not yet been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.

As bad as I want this, I'm gonna wait until the iPad II or whatever the next generation is. Not screwing myself like I did with the iPhone. I still have the original and keep delaying to upgrade to 3gs pending they offer a new one this summer. I want an iPad with camera and other features this one will lack.

I will not be buying one at launch. If I do end up getting one it'll be second hand from CL. I'd pay 360$ for a previously enjoyed iPad. Ewww, that just sounds wrong.
The lack of camera seems ridiculous especially for the mainstream market, and inexperienced user this product would attract. It'll be there in 2.0.

This would be a nice gadget to mess around with , but I still cant help but seeing this to be a bust for Apple . Like the iphone , its seems to be missing a few features that would have made it great .

I'll decide when the 4th gen iphone has been announced and I can compare...my contract would soon run out anyways, so no hurry yet

It has potential, I might get one on it's second or third generation. But right now it's nothing more than an oversized iPod Touch. Early adopters might regret buying one if they don't massively improve the software because it's got every single problem that the iPhone/iPod have. But people would line up to buy anything Apple makes regardless of how bad it is. I want something like this, but this is a complete joke of a device. Completely worthless with every single problem the other small devices have baked right in and no sign of being fixed. At least you get to set a wallpaper.

It would be cool if it had a camera then it would be cool taking it to car shows and events to record using the ivideocamera app from the app store. Its still cool as I could still sync all pics from the event to the ipad. I'm getting it, and I am sure most of u guys will be in the same line as me at the apple store.

I'm hoping the pre-order comes up soon...I assume if you pre-order, you receive it on launch day still? Since I've got a big tax refund coming in, I'm going to be first in line, for once.

man this is very hard for me decide whether or not to wait for the next one or get this one. apple's product are like drugs and we are all hooked on them.is it me or anyone else know this that apple's timing for bringing this new product around tax time in the us.man call me crazy or anything but think about it first before you say anything,we are living in a world now where big companies like apple spend big money to do research on human behavior on how we spend money on how we think on what is cool to buy.what's so bad about this,is that most of us are already hooked on a company like apple,it does not matter weather they give us the features that we want or need on any device that we will it buy from them. they know that they got most if not a lot of us hooked.

I will be getting a first gen... for the most part this will replace my 13' macBook.. I can finally leave it at home and not have to carry a laptop bag and charger... sure that isnt a lot, but compared to carrying something that is the size for a magazine and the weight of a shoe there is no contest.
I mainly use my macBook for 3 things.
I know the ipad will do 1 and 2... now Im crossing my fingers on 3.
As far as the space... 16 GB is fine with me... I already have all my music and a lot of gigs of pics on my 32GB iPhone... do I really need it on the iPad too? I dont think so. Just esensials I guess. This will be awesome!
