How are those high expectations? Those are features that have been available on tablets for years and years. High expectations would be multiple cameras, OLED screens and built-in expandable invisibility cloaks.

But like I already said, I realized that we're all comparing this to a tablet. But it's not a tablet. It's designed to do Web, Email, Calendar, Books and Apps and I think it'll do those things really well.

But are those few things worth $500?

    No.

If Apple can design me an iphone that i can stretch open to the size of an ipad and back again. Then it will be the ultimate revolutionary portable device. "Its just that simple"

Who said this was a tablet, who said it was designed to compete with tablets, its a tweener market, a MONEY MAKING MARKET.

    $500 is cheap.

For the third time, IT HAS GPS

I agree with "DaMan05" & Apple could've atleast added an ichat camera to make it stand out from the iphone, but this is relly just a bigger ipoid touch with expected new UI enhancements that take advantage of the bigger display. Lastly, the U1 Hybrid is looks really laggy and worse than the ipad. seems like the last hope for this kidn of device is the Microsoft Courier.(should it ever come out)

Here, I was mad so I made a list!

-Low resolution (1024x768) thats not even widescreen! thats not even HD! thats only 576p!

-No flash!!!!!!! an internet tablet WITHOUT FLASH?!?!

-Slow 1GHz processor for everything! one slow *** 1GHz Apple branded processor that takes care of all processing including video and graphics. this is gonna be one slow device. Even the Nexus One has a 1GHz processor

-No multitasking!!!!!! WTF?!?!?!?!? can't have a web page open and word-process at the same time?!!

-Ugly big bezel around the screen. thats just fugly. the next one will have a super slim bezel which will make the device alot nicer and everyone will want it

-How do you type on it? uummmm.... you can't type while holding it with both hands. and if you keep it on a table, you look down and type? thats gonna mess up your neck

-Still AT&T? even with their abysmal 3G service?

-Read ebooks on it!?! How are you gonna read full books on a normal LCD screen? other e-readers using e-Ink screens that are easy on the eyes. i'd go blind reading a whole book on a bright screen

-NO GPS! not really needed but come on!

-No USB ports?!?!?! thats just dumb.

-Slide to unlock... lmaooooo like you might by mistakely unlock it in your pocket :P

BUT... everyone will buy it now and everyone will buy it again when the next model comes out with all the features they could have easily added not but didnt on purpose so that people buy it again next year
I have to agree with you on everything you said. I don't care if the lower end model was 200 dollars because I still would not waste the money on this oversized IPod touch. I mean really who is going to carry this thing around like an IPod touch or an IPhone? Are people going to put songs on this thing and take it out walking or will they have this in their car checking e-mail or looking things up on the web? Thatís just my opinion on this and Iím sure there are people who will find it useful but I just canít see it.

The iPad is going to own this is fact if only because it'll let me show everyone my sick Peggle shots in a 10" screen now making it easier to stand on a table while yelling "ODE TO JOY FOR MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT, SUCKAS!".

Now they'll be able to actually see why I'm yelling.

Honest question, how can you (or anyone really) can stand to make a profit from selling themes? By themes I'm assuming full skins for the UI including icons... wouldn't that require you to support icons for all 100,000+ apps the iPhone has? Else you'd be liable to not providing the goods the customer is purchasing...

Dirt cheap? Well yeah I guess compared to other Apple products this would be dirt cheap, but paying $829, more than $300 more than the unsubsidized price of a 3GS, for something with less features and less mobility is ludicrous

As much as I respect Apple, I have to agree with the guy who brought up the Newton.

To be perfectly honest, there isn't anything that sticks out about this other then it's a larger version of the iPod Touch.

In a lot of ways, it feels as if we were handed a CD Player and told it was this amazing new technology AFTER we had already been given MP3 Players.

Can I see a benefit to such a device? Sure. It competes well with the Kindle, and Sony E-Readers... But other wise, it's really just a glorified iPhone that can't make a phone call.

From the back it looks sharp and sleek, but from the front, it looks clunky and cheap.

There's alot of real estate going on in the Home Screen, but instead of utilizing it, it's got slightly bigger-if-not-the-same-size icons as an iPod/Phone.

It would have been considerably more impressive if it was loaded with OS X or even had the ability to have a dual option interface.

So like the original iPhone, I would say it's cute, but seriously seriously lacking in any real features that didn't come out until the 3G came out.

It's a cute toy, might be fun for the gadget enthusiast, but in no way does it appear to be practical or useful to someone who already owns a laptop or iPhone or iPod Touch.

I guess the real question would be: Why would I buy this when I already have a 17inch Macbook, a 17inch Laptop, a Desktop, an iPhone, and even perhaps a media center for my television.

Even without all that, and say I'm normal and just have an iPhone and a laptop, why would I buy one?

I will be interested in seeing the future generations of this though, provided it doesn't go the way of the Newton...

Sounds BS...Can't understand what is the need for this for people who already have iphones. Except for the bigger resolution, which they can anyhow use by a/v cables

lol. what does that even mean?

name a feature that would have cost Apple a lot to add that people are disappointed about it not having. forward-facing camera for video conferencing? next to nothing. bluetooth? next to nothing. multitasking support? this has the power to handle it, and "smart" devices have been doing multitasking since...2002?

how about you name a single feature that you can suggest was "too much" for them to implement. I don't think anyone is asking for anything we don't already see on a netbook at half the price. lest we forget this product is competing against those products.

sorry dude, but I hate the Apple apologist thinking process where everything is treated as if it were a blessing and everything missing is "totally unnecessary" or "a waste of time" or "who'd ever use that?" I saw a comment left on a blog today from an apple fanboy suggesting nobody would have wanted a camera on the device. what? but if it had a camera or front-facing camera for video, that same guy would have talked about it like it was the best thing ever. so shallow.r

the device isn't for us. it's for the tech-averse.

that's the only answer that makes sense.

This is a prototype of Nvidia Tablet, when it comes out I am certain it will make the "iSuck" Tablet crawl in a hole and die for being so pathetic.
