How are those high expectations? Those are features that have been available on tablets for years and years. High expectations would be multiple cameras, OLED screens and built-in expandable invisibility cloaks.
But like I already said, I realized that we're all comparing this to a tablet. But it's not a tablet. It's designed to do Web, Email, Calendar, Books and Apps and I think it'll do those things really well.
But are those few things worth $500?

If Apple can design me an iphone that i can stretch open to the size of an ipad and back again. Then it will be the ultimate revolutionary portable device. "Its just that simple"

I agree with "DaMan05" & Apple could've atleast added an ichat camera to make it stand out from the iphone, but this is relly just a bigger ipoid touch with expected new UI enhancements that take advantage of the bigger display. Lastly, the U1 Hybrid is looks really laggy and worse than the ipad. seems like the last hope for this kidn of device is the Microsoft Courier.(should it ever come out)

The iPad is going to own this is fact if only because it'll let me show everyone my sick Peggle shots in a 10" screen now making it easier to stand on a table while yelling "ODE TO JOY FOR MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT, SUCKAS!".
Now they'll be able to actually see why I'm yelling.

Well to think how great it COULD have been. Does Steve not frequent this site? Can he not here what the people want? I agree with the guy who called it the iFail. lol. I think this thing will tank.

As much as I respect Apple, I have to agree with the guy who brought up the Newton.
To be perfectly honest, there isn't anything that sticks out about this other then it's a larger version of the iPod Touch.
In a lot of ways, it feels as if we were handed a CD Player and told it was this amazing new technology AFTER we had already been given MP3 Players.
Can I see a benefit to such a device? Sure. It competes well with the Kindle, and Sony E-Readers... But other wise, it's really just a glorified iPhone that can't make a phone call.
From the back it looks sharp and sleek, but from the front, it looks clunky and cheap.
There's alot of real estate going on in the Home Screen, but instead of utilizing it, it's got slightly bigger-if-not-the-same-size icons as an iPod/Phone.
It would have been considerably more impressive if it was loaded with OS X or even had the ability to have a dual option interface.
So like the original iPhone, I would say it's cute, but seriously seriously lacking in any real features that didn't come out until the 3G came out.
It's a cute toy, might be fun for the gadget enthusiast, but in no way does it appear to be practical or useful to someone who already owns a laptop or iPhone or iPod Touch.
I guess the real question would be: Why would I buy this when I already have a 17inch Macbook, a 17inch Laptop, a Desktop, an iPhone, and even perhaps a media center for my television.
Even without all that, and say I'm normal and just have an iPhone and a laptop, why would I buy one?
I will be interested in seeing the future generations of this though, provided it doesn't go the way of the Newton...Herp a derp a derp a doooo!

Sounds BS...Can't understand what is the need for this for people who already have iphones. Except for the bigger resolution, which they can anyhow use by a/v cables

name a feature that would have cost Apple a lot to add that people are disappointed about it not having. forward-facing camera for video conferencing? next to nothing. bluetooth? next to nothing. multitasking support? this has the power to handle it, and "smart" devices have been doing multitasking since...2002?
how about you name a single feature that you can suggest was "too much" for them to implement. I don't think anyone is asking for anything we don't already see on a netbook at half the price. lest we forget this product is competing against those products.
sorry dude, but I hate the Apple apologist thinking process where everything is treated as if it were a blessing and everything missing is "totally unnecessary" or "a waste of time" or "who'd ever use that?" I saw a comment left on a blog today from an apple fanboy suggesting nobody would have wanted a camera on the device. what? but if it had a camera or front-facing camera for video, that same guy would have talked about it like it was the best thing ever. so shallow.r
that's the only answer that makes sense.
