Apple is still signing iOS 5.1.1 firmware for iPad 1, so you can restore to it.

    1. Backup with iTunes and iTools (multiple backups just in case)
    2. Put iPad in pwned DFU mode (google for instructions or use iREB from iH8sn0w.com)
    3. Run iTunes and follow instructions to restore
    4. Untethered jailbreak using Redsn0w ( see instructions below)
    5. Restore from the backup in step 1

    Good luck

Yes you can update it for 5.1.1 firmware. As above post Redsn0w can do solution for you. It's easy for use. Any matter using Redsn0w post here. If you have not any idea you can use Cydia installer to download best jailbreak tool. Jailbreak tools are free for users. So do not need to pay for these tools.

    How to use Redsn0w
    --Download latest redsn0w version 0.9.15b3
    --Connect your device
--Click jailbreak and set your device into dfu mode
--Wait till end of process and device may be reboot
--End of process click extras and just boot

These are the steps you need to follow. Also hundreds of Youtube video's ready for you. Follow them for additional details.
