08-04-2013, 12:02 AM #1Upgrade Ipad 2 5.0.1 JB to 5.1.1 JB
I have a jailbroken 5.0.1 Ipad 2 Id like to upgrade to 5.1.1 with jailbreak, can this be done, and if so can someone point me to a guide, or give me best practice procedure?
Im sure this has been asked before, but all the threads Ive found give varied answers, would like to find out a definitive answer, I really dont want to lose my jailbreak.
Also is there anyway to back up my jailbreak installation so it could be restored if something does go wrong, again, seen various responses on this so any concrete answers would be great

Hi, backup your iPad with iTunes, then your jailbroken stuff to Dropbox with PkgBackup.
Here are two guides for upgrading your iOS

It won't work if you got to iOS5.0.1 using OTA updates and you will need both your 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 SHSH blobs.

I have not upgraded to 5.1.1 before, so i do not have a blob for 5.1.1. Is upgrade still possible?

If ya don't have the blobs you won't be able to go to that firmware

Thanks for the definitive answer 2k1. If I were to upgrade to the newest signed ios6, and cant survive without my jailbreak...
Can I downgrade back to 5.0.1 since I have my blobs for that version?

Yes you can if you have th blobs for that firmware

Hi, for a point of interest, if you were jailbroken on iOS5.0.1 while iOS5.1.1 was out, shouldn't Cydia have automatically backed up your 5.1.1 blobs for you?

You sir, rock.
My Cydia TSS says I have 5.0.1, 5.1, 5.1.1, 6.13
Now I just have to figure out how to extract them...anyone have a link?

Use redsn0w's "Restore" feature under Extras -> Even More -> Restore, and it should offer you a chance to snag them from the remote server once you point redsn0w to a 5.1.1 IPSW (as well as handle the actual restoring process in lieu of iTunes).

So redsnow failed... and i had to restore to 6.1.3, im reading that i need an ios4 blob in a addition to my 5.1.1 blob to restore? Is this true?
2k1 please elaborate, your answer was that i needed the blobs for that one version...
I really hope im not stuck on ios6 without jailbreak....

Ooo, so redsn0w complained about bad/unusable APTickets or something to that effect? That's no good.
So here's the tricky bit: iOS 4 has different requirements for restoring than iOS 5/6. iOS 4 only requires a static "blob" unique to your device/firmware to authenticate the restore. iOS 5/6 requires a unique, per-installation-attempt APTicket (enforced by a random number generated at boot time) in addition to this static "blob." iOS 5 can bypass this per-attempt bug under certain circumstances for any other version of iOS 5 or lower.
If you can get to iOS 4, you can harness that restore bug that bypasses iOS 5's unique number bug. iOS 4 doesn't have the same unique number requirement, so it's still theoretically possible to restore today from any firmware version.
Unfortunately, you will need blobs for an iOS 4 version in order to downgrade to any other firmware version.

I never had ios4... It wasnt an apticket problem, it was a code 37 bad hardware problem, probably the old usb cable i was using

So Im out of luck then? 2k1, please be more careful about misinformation. I guess have a ipad 2 for sale now, its useless to me, I cant stand it without my ifile, lowercase keyboard, snes emulator and all the things i enjoyed it for up until yesterday...and all i wanted to do was update tabletop
