Need a hand in upgrading from 5.1 to 5.1.1
Hello,
I'm not interested in IOS 6.x and all I need is someone's hand in upgrading my IOS of my IPAD 3 from the factory IOS v5.1(9B176) to v5.1.1 (The exact filename I downloaded is: iPad3,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore.ipsw). After d/l that gigantic IOS 5.1.1, I've lost my way and don't know how to use it. (P.S. I tried to use redsnow's restore feature but it told me about strange stuff like "blobs" and things are now very confusing for me).
I'll appreciate if someone guide me to how to upgrade from 5.1 to 5.1.1 in order to apply Absinthe JB on it as I'm not too excited too much about the changes in IOS6
Many Thanks in advance...

You can't restore to 5.1.1 unless you have 5.1.1 shsh.

Save them with tiny umbrella or redsnow when apple still had the window open.

What's wrong with just going to 6.1? It's fully jailbreakable now for all devices.

No problem, I'll definitely upgrade to 6.1. I just didn't want to rush and install it now untill apple kink out most of the bad issues in the 6.x family. Also I learned from my general reading that they've taken away the "Maps" application which is something that I like on ios 5

Thanks for all the posts. One more question: If I upgrade to 6.1 now and apply the JB, would it be possible to install non-signed ipa files stored on my hard drive onto my ipad using that program called "ifunbox"? or I need to do something else after JB?

6.1.2 jb?
No Problem at all.
Just one last question...
Relying on your advices that I should stick with the latest IOS, I found out that itunes wants me to download v6.1.2 of IOS. Evansions's JB would still work with that latest iteration of the ios 6 fine?
See my hesitation of upgrading to ios?! every few days they update their ios (a few days ago I remember it was v6.1 but now it's 6.1.2)!
By the way, I downloaded just this morning the file: iPad3,1_6.1_10B141_Restore.ipsw from this same website. Is it still the same file for 6.1.2? If yes, How can I make itunes use this file instead of grabbing it from the internet?
Many thanksLast edited by magmag; 02-19-2013 at 11:28 AM.

Don't restore to 6.1.2. We don't know yet if that is jailbreak friendly. You should be able to hold shift/option and hit restore in itunes and you can point it to the 6.1 firmware you downloaded to restore to that. Do it ASAP though, as soon as Apple stops signing 6.1 you won't be able to go to it anymore. They could stop signing it at any point now that 6.1.2 just dropped.

Many thanks Simon. I already updated to 6.1 and jb'd it. I really hope that I don't miss a lot from the fixes in 6.1.1 and 6.1.2
