Default Can't Restore to 5.1.1 but can restore to iOS 6 Beta
I've been trying to restore my iPad 3 to iOS 5.1.1 all day so that I can jailbreak it. I get all sorts of error messages depending on how I try to fix the problem. I get errors, 14, 1600, 1601, and 21. I downloaded an iOS 5.1.1 firmware, put my iPad into DFU mode (the screen is black) then hit option and restore and selected the correct firmware. I am however, not able to restore to 5.1.1. I said to heck with it and attempted the same steps to restore it to iOS 6 beta and it worked without flaw. How can I restore to 5.1.1? Thanks in advance.

I tried downloading redsn0w but when I click extras and then pwned DFU it says it does not support iPad 3 yet. I'm pretty sure I downloaded the newest one.

1600 is caused by security or virus software, consider disabling that and then try it again.

Yes you can downgrade on Mac you going back to 5.1.1? Git ya a custom firmware for 5.1.1 and option click restore. But make sure ya in dfu mode to do so.

I just tried again. I put my iPad 3 into DFU mode (the screen was black) I clicked option and restore and clicked the 5.1.1 firmware and received error 21 or 14 I don't remember.

OK, I'm going to say 3 things:

Apple says it can be security software like I suggested before.

In rare cases, it can be hardware. (I seriously doubt it's hardware in your case since iOS 6 works fine)

They suggest trying another computer. So options 1 and 3 are what I think you should try.

    If you got error 14:

These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
So, if none of this works, try a different computer...

The error 21 part was this:

    No, it's probably not -_-

I'd try this and see if it makes a difference, tell me if it doesn't. iClarified - iPad - How to Downgrade Your iPad 2 or iPad 3 Using RedSn0w (Windows)

I turned off my virus protection and used a different computer. Nothing worked. I'm at a loss. I can restore to iOS 6 beta without any problems at all. I just can't get to 5.1.1.

It must be the IPSW then bud, I can't think of anything else that could cause it. I would try a different IPSW if I were you, it's worth a shot since all the other normal fixes refuse to work. You can get them from the downloads tab.

Well, I think we kinda got away from the PWNED DFU... Try updating you redsn0w and see if it'll work then. redsn0w 0.9.14b2 is the latest version so make sure you have that...
