I have a question: this week I won a 64GB iPad 2 WiFi+3G (Verizon) and it's coming Wednesday. I have no idea what firmware is on it, but assuming the worst and it's 4.3.4 or later. My Cydia shows SHSH blobs available for 4.1, 4.2.1, 4.3.3, 4.3.4 and 4.3.5.

Does this mean I'm okay to downgrade if the iPad I receive is 4.3.4 or later, or am I missing something?

    Any info is appreciated.

Sorry no. SHSH blobs are iDevice + iOS version unique. No sharing allowed.

Damn! Well, I hope I'm lucky enough (again; was lucky to have even won it in the first place!) to get one with one of the older firmware builds.

I take it that should it be 4.3.4 or later I'm SOL?

No one really knows. When you get it, use Tiny Umbrella to find out. Who knows, you might get lucky again

Cool. Also, does the fact it's WiFi+3G (Verizon) make any difference?

Sorry for the questions but I'm new to the iPad.

I bet it'll be 4.3.3 jailbreakable. When you receive it, it needs iTunes to activate. It WILL ask to update, the biggest mistake people make is hit ok and the first time it starts it's at 4.3.5. Just plug it in iTunes until it boots and cancel the updates. 4.3.3 is the only version on iPad 2 that you can jailbreak, it's not the earliest version but WAS the most common and being this is some sort of raffle or competition you won, the prize was probably sitting around for a while.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. And yes, I know about people doing that with the upgrades; I have a few friends who ruined their iPhones doing that.

Thanks for all the great info; I'll be sure to come back and let everyone know what I got.

Having won an iPad is happiness and if it comes with iOS 4.3.3 will be double happiness

I got it to work. I used a variation of those steps and it took several retries. Here's what I did:
    1. Upgraded iTunes
    2. Replaced with HOSTS file the provided HOSTS file above.
    3. Downloaded 4.3.3 IPSW
    4. Used redsn0w and selected the 4.3.3 IPSW. I left the default boxes selected.
    5. After this ran, it apparently just jailbroke my phone with version 4.3.5.
    6. Ran redsn0w again the exact same way and it ended up putting the phone into DFU rather than showing 4.3.5 again.
    7. Loaded sn0wbreeze and made a custom 4.3.3 IPSW.
    8. Loaded Tinyumbrella and turned on the TSS server.
    9. Loaded iTunes and did a restore (phone still in DFU) with the new custom IPSW.
    10. iTunes did not have a 1xxx error. However the phone went into recovery mode.
    11. Put phone back into DFU mode and restored again with custom IPSW again and it worked!

I never needed to save the SHSH blob files.

Needed restore files: MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Someone want to try it out ?
A rather desperate soul here, but for 100% this won't work?

Desperate people try desperate methods. This method does will work.

There are no know methods to circumvent prior version SHSH requirements. Apple has successfully locked this door.

Man, lucky all the way around!!! It just came a few minutes ago to my office and it's iOS 4.3!!! I'll leave it to charge and get back to work, but I'm going shopping after work for accessories!

I'll have to hide it somewhere so my office staff or patients don't touch it, LOL!

    Congratulations .... I think .. maybe.

I hope you meant to say 4.3.3?

At the moment, iOS 4.3.3 is the one and only jailbreakable iPad 2 iOS.

It says 4.3 in the information under About. Can't I just update the device to 4.3.3 and then jailbreak it?

IF you have 4.3.3 SHSH blobs -- yes. Without 4.3.3 SHSH blobs -- no.

It's the ole catch-22. Once Apple stops signing 4.3.3, it's gone forever unless it's running 4.3.3

Edit: And for the iPad 2 ... it is gone forever because iFaith doesn't work on the iPad 2.

Darn! I just hooked it up to iTunes and sure enough, it says 4.3 not 4.3.3.

So my newly won iPad 2 can't be updated or jailbroken, then?

Sorry ... sorry ... sorry. No!

But please check Tiny Umbrella. Never know what is available until checking.

Just downloaded and started Tiny Umbrella and it's more bad news: There are no SHSH blobs showing up for the iPad 2.

    Now I'm depressed!

You were lucky to get it free

You have two choices. Stay at 4.3 or go to 4.3.5. Both unjailbroken.

Personally, I would stay put. No reason to update or change.
IF (highly unlikely though) a new jailbreak is found, staying old is usually better.

Note: Also, you should have a 4.3.5 SHSH blob.

Yes, you're right, I was lucky to get it for free. Having said that, it's not nearly as useful to me without the jailbreak. And I can only assume that the SHSH blobs are particular to each individual device?

Guess I'll be giving it to my wife.
