iPad will not restore when I manually point it to a file

This screen is the bane of my existance.
Device: iPad 1
I originally got a iPad with 4.2.1 on it. I tried downloading 4.3.3 to upgrade it so I could jailbreak the thing but I got this message. I then downloaded every firmware between 4.2-4.3.3 and tried upgrading (holding option and then clicking on restore)....
I have jailbroken many a ipod/ipad/iphone in the past and this is the only device that has ever given me this problem.
I am 100% positive that I am downloading the correct firmware (i am not using the ipad 2 firmware or ipod or iphone... iPad 1 firmware). This device has NEVER been jailbroken before.
I finally after hours of frustration clicked the restore button and apple updated the thing to 4.3.5 for me. This is the only way I can upgrade. I have no idea what is wrong. I now need to downgrade to 4.3.3 which is fine... except whenever I go into itunes and hold option and click restore I get this message right after "extracting software".
The above screenshot is when i just downloaded 4.3.5 IPSW and tried doing a manual restore with stock firmware (no downgrade). Still nothing.
Does anyone have any idea what the heck is wrong? I have cleared my hosts files of anything with apple in it, ran tiny umbrella and unchecked "set hosts to cydia on exit".
I am lost and clueless. Never have I had a apple device given me this much frustration.

You need SHSH for a firmware that is not the latest firmware. Otherwise you will get that error. You can use tiny umbrella to see what SHSH you have.

Never jailbreak before or never run tiny umbrella on this device to save shsh blob means you don't have 4.3.3 shsh blob = No Downgrade.

You should be able to restore the current version.
Check/edit/delete all lines in hosts file that contain 'gs.apple.com' and try again.
Or use: Tiny Umbrella, adv tab, uncheck 'set hosts to Cydia on exit', then exit.
Then check hosts file to very.
iTunes normal restore button should work now.

Firmware version 4.3.3 is no longer being signed by the overlord(A.K.A: Apple).

Yeah. I am not happy but with 4.3.5 and no blobs what other options do I have until iOS5 is released?

Without SHSH you have no other options unfortunately.

So what about this. I got the same error as mentioned in the first post when trying to UPGRADE to iOS5 beta 6. I am a registered apple developer so I got the file legally from the apple dev center.
My hosts file has no references to apple. I alt clicked on the update button and pointed it to the ios5 file i just got from apples website. Right after the software update I got the same error. I fear that if I do not figure out the source of this, every update in the future will do the same thing. Any ideas other than the hosts?

Don't know much about iOS 5 except it's for developers, still flaky, expires in 1 month, still a tethered jb. Lots of problems and issues ... I stay away.

AH FML with this iPad. Never in my life have I ever had so much trouble with any apple device before.
Clicked restore and the thing got a little further but still would not update to ios5 beta because of the same issue.
Then i put 4.3.5 back on it and tried a tethered jailbreak. This is what happens:
(got the latest redsn0w and pointed it to the 4.3.4 IPSW)

When you tap on cydia it does not load.
Not only this but safari does not load. For some reason the mail client does tho.
What the **** is wrong with this ipad. seriously. when i got the thing it had never been jailbroken and had 4.2.1 on it.
EDIT: The weirdest thing is I can reboot the thing and still get this screen... which is telling me that the jailbreak did not work properly using redsnow?Last edited by emericana; 08-29-2011 at 09:43 PM.

When you get a White icon, a tether boot should give you a cydia icon
