Slick Wraps iPad 2 Silver Carbon Skin
Slick Wraps has come through again with the wraps for the new iPad 2. You can get these in a number of textures and colors from carbon to wood. I did reviews on the board series and ebony wood series iPhone 4 skins not to long ago and judging from how they fit and the quality, I knew the iPad 2 skin would be just as nice.
This is just a skin so it will not protect you iPad from any drops other than providing some scratch resistance. The protection that the skin gives you is the piece of mind that when you slide your ipad across the table or on the desk that you wont be scratching up the front or back. The back skin leaves partial bits of the corners uncovered as the wrap would be hard to contour the new iPad curved corner design. The from skin covers the whole bezel and the thickness gives the ipad a little bit of lay on table protection.
These skin from SlickWraps are very functional, being that they are thin you are able to use them with many other accessories. You can still slide it into your sleeves and leather stand and they act as a added layer of protection from wear and tear. Everyone will probably want to know if it will work with the smart cover? well do to the thickness of the skin on the back the magnetic smart cover will simply attach right over the skin, it worked for me without a hitch and I didn't notice any weakness in the magnets because of the skin. The carbon wrap that I got adds a small bit or grip to the ipad also. To keep the minimal feel of the new iPad 2 SlickWraps is a good functional minimal protection solution.
QUALITY & DESIGN
The design of the back skin I think could be slightly better in the corners, they are exposed a little bit with the current design, being that apple went with a curved body design it is very hard for companies like slick wraps to make a design that will wrap those curved corners. In my experience when a wrap company tries to make a unique design that will wrap curved edges it backfires because buyers end up not installing right and want refunds or replacements. Also covering the corners ends up being resulting in using small pieces barely attached to the skin that peel up easily and get caught on real easy. The front shield is very simple as it covers the whole bezel except camera bezel and home button. The quality is great they use 3m vinyl that is high quality and doesn't leave residue behind when peeled off, if you are careful you can even reuse the skin multiple times.
Overall Slick Wraps has a great solution for the minimal protection ipad users out there and the design and quality is really good, I recommend it and if used with smart cover it gives you a good amount of protection. You can get the texture models for $30 dollars and add 2 crystal clear screen protectors for $10 bucks, you can also get vinyl wraps in matching colors to your smart cover for $16 dollars.
