Rock Extensions bug causing mail fetch on startup

I've identified a bug with Rock Extensions that causes mail from all accounts to be fetched at launch, even if system preferences for all accounts is set to manual.

I've tested and confirmed that the cause is Rock Extensions. Here's how to repeat:

In system preferences:

Fetch New Data: off
Push: off
Fetch: Manually
Advanced: all accounts - Manually

Rock App: installed
Rock Extensions: installed

Intelliscreen: installed, NOT enabled

1) Restart phone
2) Put phone on charger overnight or long enough for Rock Extensions to quit.
3) Take phone off charger to wake up.
4) On launch of Rock Extensions, mail from all accounts is fetched.

@psuskeels, please investigate. It's a big drag to deal with dozens of unwanted fetched messages every morning.

Many thanks!

Hi dhl: It's not rock extensions - it's intelliscreen (try disabling intelliscreen from the rock extensions menu in fact . It's not that it's "triggering" a fetch, but rather launching mail (IntelliScreen, elert, tlert, myprofiles all run in mail for performance/stability reasons.)

Hi psuskeels, I just did the test you suggested - uninstalling IntelliScreen and IntelliDial from the RockApp manage tab. I still get the same problematic behavior -- mail is being fetched when I take my phone off the charger in the morning.

It is definitely a bug with rock extensions as it does not happen with the RockApp alone. This problem is new to FW 3.0. Please advise. Thanks!

***update
I'll install syslog later today and post the results

Hi psuskeels,

I've spent the past week testing different conditions. It looks like I was mistaken above. Either IntelliScreen or Intellishared are indeed causing the mail fetch, not Rock Extensions alone as I previous thought I saw.

I've captured a syslog of the behavior when taken off the charger in the morning. The Pastie URL is:

#562249 - Pastie

Please take a look and advise on a solution. Many thanks for your help!

@bhz1 Are you sure your fetch preferences in system settings are correct? I've been testing this for weeks and I assure you it is absolutely, demonstrably caused by IntelliScreen and or IntelliShared.

@psuskeels any progress with this? It's really a big problem.

thanks!

Always have push set to off and fetch set to manual for each mail account. I have done this from the start because the way I use mail on tehiphone I never wanted push to begin with.

As I mentioned earlier - IntelliScreen (and most other Intelliborn products) run in MobileMail - if it's not launched (ie, via push or fetch), Intelliborn will launch mail, which triggers a fetch by default. In other words, it's not explicity fetching, but it is causing a fetch.

Intelliborn products run inside MobileMail for stability and performance reasons.

Perhaps that is true but opening contacts apparently opens mail as well.

@psuskeels, this behavior started with iPhone OS 3.0. It was *not* occurring under 2.x. From a user POV, this is a bug, and a major one at that. Was a change made in how Intelliborn products load for 3.0? Are you saying there's no fix for this?

Thanks,
--dhl

Hey DHL - no change for 3.0 - it did occur under 2.x ( i promise - we didnt' change anything with regards to this between 2.x and 3.x and I'm very sure that Apple did a fetch on mail launch in 2.x as well.

Regarding user pov - i will see what we can do to have an option to run everything in springboard
