need help with dead battery on iphone 3GS cant restore.

I have only had my Iphone 3GS for 2 months and in the last 2 days it started acting weird it would go dead, place on charger and it would go from 0 to 100 percent in 15 or 20 min. Today, it went dead and wont charge. It gives the battery with a small red area on it with a lightning bolt below it, but wont charge. I finally got DFU completed by opening Itunes then holding power and home for 10 seconds then releasing power and holding home till computer recognized it. I am trying to restore, but 3.1.2 wont completely download. It gets to about 35% before it says timed out or cant connect to the link. I dont know what I need to do to get this fixed. If I can get it restored to 3.1.2, I guess I can return it tomorrow. I have it currently jailbroke on 3.0.1. please help. Thanks in advance.

just curious what finally happened?..did you send a JB phone back in to Apple?...Im having the same pboblem....tia
