Apt Backup software has crashed my iPhone!! PLEASE HELP!!!
Please help! I ran the Apt Backup software's restore and it totally crashed my iPhone 3G.
I have successfully previously backed up my Cydia apps through this backup software as recommended. I had to run a restore and jailbreak my iPhone using iTunes and Quickpawn. My phone was already previously jailbroken but had to run restore for yellowsn0w. My phone was working great after the yellowsn0w installation until I decided to retrieve the info of my previously installed Cydia programs through Apt Backup and now my phone is stuck and could not go beyond the Apple logo. I don't know what to do now.
Even if I want to run the restore through iTunes, it cannot see my phone and it also stuck my iTunes. It seems to be restarting on its own which takes about 2-3 minutes and then I could feel the vibration after which the Auto Play comes up in my PC. AFter a few minutes it then restarts again but it doesn't go beyond the Apple logo. Wha I can see if I click the view files through my PC's Auto Play is "Internal Storage" with a DCIM folder and two sub folders under it with pictures that I've taken. If I open the DCIM folder there's nothing in it except for the two sub fodlers earlier mentioned. I'm in dire straits here I need your help. Please, please tell me what to do.... Thank you....

Place the phone into DFU mode and restore it.

The same thing just happened to me, did the DFU mode and restore work for you? Also, do I restore it with the "original" apple firmware and then re-jailbreak it?

I've just now restored my iphone completely, starting (yet again) with the custom firmware I created via pwnage tool 2.2. Have not yet attempted the update to 2.2.1. I then proceeded to restore my j/b apps via apt backup (to my surprise, i actually had the foresight to create a backup of these using Apt Backup last week). After the .ipw loaded and installed, i restored my iphone to the last known backup, then went to Apt Backup on the iphone and hit restore. It took about 15 minutes (presumably, as it slurped the apps from cydia) and then the phone restarted. I love it when a plan comes together!

I used apt backup on 2.2 and it crashed my iphone 3g as the previous post explained it reboots every 2-3 minutes and vibrates twice.
Then I had no other option but to restore using pwnage.
After getting it up to 2.2.1 I thought I would try apt back up again and yet again it bricked mt phone.
I found some other ideas where I could replace the com.apple.Preferences.plist file and that did not work I guess i have to restore yet again.

Had similar problems and come to the conclusion AptBackup must run BEFORE installing anything except the basic phone backup and Cydia AptBackup install or else the phone watchdog timer will expire and put the phone in constant reboot. I believe this is due to the long time it takes to rebuild the springboard after installing so many Cydia apps at one time. I've also started editing the AptBackup backup list to eliminate already installed and/or unwanted apps. Now it completes in about 1 minute.

Can you please explain how you store or edit the AptBackup backup list in steps for the not-so-savvy users please. I have jailbroken my 3G succesfully 4 times with various software (Mac) like Quick Pwn and Pwnage but never was able to use AptBackup to restore my JB apps from Cydia & Installer afterwards, even if I had backup and had a good backup in iTunes. I have tried just after customs built only download Cydia and Installer, after restored, download AptBackup first and did the restore, but it never did anything for me. I am about to jailbreak again to use 3.0 and Pwnage 3.0 and have the feeling that it will fail me again... any help would be appreciated. thanks

what you said can't be true, may iphone 3g keeps crashing/bricking
and you opinion is that you shouldn't install stuff first
we i don't, i do a factory reset, everything is wiped, jailbreak, then restore from my backup then use aptbackup to recover cydia apps
bam still freezes and every couple minutes has the boot logo, its stuck in a loop

In the directory /private-var-mobile-Library-Preferences, take a look at aptbackup_dpkg-packages.txt. It contains a list of the packages/programs to restore.
Many are system packages which are already installed with the jb and Cydia. Skip these. Load the rest individually .. with an occasional respring and/or reboot in-between package. That should get you up and running.
If you want to see what is currently installed, use SSH / Terminal. dpkg -l. No reason to reinstall these.
