Help Please - Upgrade iPhone 1.0.2 Firmware 03.14.08_G

I have iPhone 1.0.2 Firmware 03.14.08_G, and I want to upgrade to 1.1.x and then further on to 2.x.x.

Can anyone please suggest how to go ahead with this. What files will be required, which version of iTunes should I use to do this.

I have Windows XP. This phone was unlocked by a friend, who has lost his own iPhone. I know this is a bit late to live with 1.0.2, but atleast i have takent eh first step by posting a message in this forum.

The problem is that Installer does not start. It hangs on 'Checking Sources' and then goes to the home screen.

Anyone please help...

Just connect to iTunes and upgraded to 2.1.

Then, follow this to unlock and jailbreak.

Thanks

Rip,

Thanks for the help. I have following 2 questions:

What version of iTunes to use with 1.0.2. Can I do all of this on Vista.

Since this was a jailbroken phone, will "Just connect to iTunes and upgraded to 2.1." brick the phone?

You 'should' be fine and unlikely to brick. I say should as a caveat as there is always a chance but if you follow the tutorial precisely it should be fine.

I last used quickpwn with iTunes 7.7 and that was fine. I believe it's OK with iTunes 8 but have not tried that myself. The tutorial says iTunes 8 so I'd go with that.

As far as Vista is concerned, I don't know as I only use XP. Have a search or wait for another reply from a vista user.

Looking at the screenshots from the tutorial, it's looks like they used vista.

So there is no need to "virginize" as has widely been said about 1.0.2 phones with possible corrupted basebands (due to the earlier unlocking methods)

The tutorial does say upgrade to 2.1, however you have said upgrade to 2.1 and then follow the tutorial.

I don't know about that. I certainly didn't virginise before I upgraded.

Just follow the tutorial. You only need to upgrade to 2.1 once. I upgraded then followed the tutorial, missing the upgrade step as I'd already done it.
