Default Compatible "Word" and Internet Security
    Hi folks.
Getting IMac 21.5, 500GB soon but have 2 questions.
    1. All PC's at work run Windows XP and MS Word.
I need "Word" to use on iMac at home that WILL BE compatible/formatted with work PC's. I don't want to install Windows on iMac and I don't want full MS Suite. Suggestions please.
    2. After reading quite a lot about Internet Security on Macs I'm more confused!! Should I get it or not?? If so, then what is suggested?
    Thanks from South Australia.
PS it's 42 degrees (107 F) here today so I'm sittin on me iPhone and watching cricked!!

    1) You can get a copy of Word for OS X. I'm not sure if they sell it alone, but you can get the basic Word / Excel / PowerPoint bundle and just install Word. If this is for work purposes, your company may even have a Mac license for Office for people to use on their personal machines. The new version of Office also has an option for a web based copy of Word. I don't have experience with it, but it might be an option.

    2) I would recommend at the very least having a virus scanner. Mac being automagically secure is an unfortunate myth. They are less targeted than Windows, but still have vulnerabilities and still run other software (like Java, Flash) that have vulnerabilities. I don't use a Mac personally, but I have heard good things about Kaspersky AV, and I like their Windows software. ClamXav is a free scanner that a lot of people use as well.

    Cheers from North America!

There is a application for Mac called OpenOffice.org. It is free and it can open up Word documents. Download it from www.openoffice.org if you want it.

For internet security, I use ClamXav.

Thanks guys. I looked at OOo, and it seems to be able to read Word but the reverse won't be possible. ClamXav looks good

If you are talking about saving documents in Word format, OpenOffice.org can export it to Word format.
