Ran iLiberty, but nothing happened...

I apologize if this has already been addressed somewhere, but I've just looked around for about 30 min and haven't found anything helpful. I just jailbroke & unlocked my 4 gig iPhone 1.1.4 using iLiberty, and the whole process was fairly seamless. However, nothing is different. The iPhone looks and works just the same as when it was purchased new. Am I supposed to download something else to access all those cool apps? My friend jailbroke his iPhone and has all these settings menus filled with all kinds of things to choose from. How do I get that? Also, will inserting a different SIM card be enough to start service with another company or is there another step that needs to be taken?

I appreciate any help/advice...

If you used windows you have to download the Installer payload to get it on your phone when you jailbreak.
