It doesn't need to be unlocked, like EVO said. There are a few things that need to be done to get all the features working properly. Here's a link on the info:
http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.p...ht_Talk_iPhone
Considering it is a wiki however, I don't know how accurate or how reliable all the info is. But it'll point you in the right direction.
As for T-Mobile, that's an entirely different story with the unlocking business which is dependent on the baseband of the device.

2 questions:
1: in the middle of JB, I get an error from windows: absinthe has stopped working, that has happened 5 times now, what could be the problem?
2: can I JB without internet on my computer? im tethering from phone right now but if I try a complete restore, I won't have internet.

1. Make sure you're running it as Administrator.
2. If you restore it, you have to have internet otherwise the Apple servers won't validate it. You have to have wifi to use Absinthe.

Maybe it's your PC or something....
Had you clean restored them both? There could always be traces of an old jailbreak left.

Hey guys, bit of a noob here, I didn't want to start a new thread, and I've been reading through the 15 pages of this thread, but I'm still a bit confused. What exactly is the benefit to updating to 5.1.1 then re-jailbreaking?
Are there any disadvantages if I'm not worried about unlocking or anything like that? Any issues with updating from an already jailbroken 5.0.1, to 5.1.1, and re- jailbreaking an iPhone 4s (att) on absinthe 2.0.1? Or is that just with people who need to unlock their phones?
Thanks for the help and anyones time!

There aren't many advantages, 5.1.1 gives better battery life for the people that were having issues with it at 5.x, the lockscreen camera button, and a few other minor things. But not worth the hassle IMO
