I replaced an iPhone 4 screen recently and when I booted the phone, a vertical strip of the screen did not respond to touch. I assumed it was a faulty screen and replaced it again only to find the issue remained in exactly the same place. I have no idea if the issue was present before I replaced the damaged screen (black screen). Both the new screens were from different suppliers.

It sounds like something might have went wrong with the installation, unless there were two separate parts from two separate suppliers that was faulty. Check around the plugin for the digitizer and make sure that none of the jumpers around the connection are loose or missing. Also check the connection itself to make sure that its connected all the way and that none of the gold connection prongs are bent out of shape. Let me know your diagnostics.
