iPhone 5 Parts Revisited
So just for kicks I called around to a few different UBreakiFix shops. I asked how much they would replace an iPhone 5 screen for. They told me 229-239. I called 3 different stores.
The cheapest I can get it is from my current supplier at $215. I doube UBreakiFix is getting them that much cheaper. I think they are doing them just to do them and taking not necessarily a loss but not making a whole lot. I'd rather do them and make almost nothing than not at all. Currently we send people to Apple since it's $229. I'd rather do it for a customer at $229 to keep them and let them know that we do it.
Thoughts??

You've got a good point there (and also a better price than me haha). To be honest that's going to take some trial and error there. If it were me, if an iPhone repair store was offering the same price as Apple, I'd still take it to Apple. Even though it is a bit out of my way (about a 45 minute drive) I'd rather retain the warranty. I'm sure some would feel the other way. Although from what I've seen all we can get right now are OEM screens anyway so would they know the difference?

In most cases, Apple isn't able to tell if the screen has been replaced at first glance. Even if they open it up, there's not a whole lot going on that would indicate that anyone's been inside it.. If you're doing the WHOLE front assembly with the home button/cam/etc it's just 3 screws, a plate and snap snap pop and you're done.
I have a black and a white screen on the way and I've already been feeling people out. People come to us first and ask us and EVEN when I tell them that it's cheaper at Apple for the time being, they still scoff at the price (rightfully so).
But generally, Apple has never been able to tell our screens from originals. The guy behind the bar just cares about the water indicators and if the serial says it's under warranty.
We shall see!

I can get the screens for $189 so if some shops are doing it for 229 to be competitive with apple or because an apple store isnt any where close they are still technically making 40 bucks on the repair and really it only takes what maybe and i mean maybe 5 mins.. It probably takes longer to turn the phone off and back on then it does to repair the screen

This could be a good sign of prices going down.

What I've done is I found a decent place to buyback iPhone 5 Digi/LCDs. So now I subtract that from my cost of what I pay for a front and add labor. I'm able to charge anywhere between $199 and at most $229 to match Apple.
