What is the function of this hole in the back cover of Iphone 4s?

I also notice there is a counterpart on the Iphone board - the golden thing that sticks out.

I have an iphone back cover , which is all plastic, no metal contact hole for the "golden thing", is it ok to use?

never really looked into it but from what I understand the contact is either a ground or an antenna... not 100% sure which exactly however I believe the opening is so that it touches the actual glass on the OEM back cover. I have replaced plastic backs and didnt have any problems that I recalled... just try it if it works you're golden.

It is the ground for the antenna you should be ok maybe notice slightly less signal but not enough to not use them
