Not having much to go on, I'd say try doing a hard reboot (holding both power and home buttons down till phone reboots).
So iTunes doesn't recognize it? and your sure the USB connector is good?

I'm pretty sure the connectors are good, they will charge other iPhones. But it gets better two days ago my power button became jammed and will not work. The phone had a charge and when I picked it up to use it it was as if it was dead. So I then tried to hook it up to a type of charger but it wouldn't charge or come on. It is jailbroken but has been since May but this is the first issue I have had.

But yeah iTunes won't recognize the phone either.

Because of what your telling me about the power button, it seems certain to me that it is a hardware issue. If it is a 4S, take it to Apple, if not then there are members here on the forum that do repairs very reasonable in price and respected, or perhaps a local shop near you.
So sorry your having such a problem, but very fixable. Even You Tube can help you repair it yourself.

Has the phone actually died yet? It sounds like a software issue to me. I've had my jailbroken phones go black on me before and a hard reset always fixed the problem. The issue with your home button is a repairable one. But I bet it still works. Try taking a coin and laying it over the button and then pressing really hard while pressing your home button to see if you can get the phone to hard reset. If it has died since then I would simply just plug it in and see if it boots up.

The phone was dead when I picked it up to use it. It shut off by itself and now will not be recognized by iTunes or any charger I have tried. It is the power/sleep button that is broke or jammed.

And I haven't gotten the coin trick to work yet. Thanks for your suggestions and I'm gladly taking more from anybody. The phone is under warranty but if I'm not mistaken the jailbreak voids the warranty?

If the phone will not power up, you'll have no problem getting it replaced even though it is jailbroken, how would they know?

I'm in agreement with blkcadi on that one. Even if they get it to work it'll have to be restored.
