Default my iPhone 3gs shows less memory than it has
    Hi,

iPhone 3GS has 256MB RAM but summing up all kinds of RAM brings me to 170MB

    see photo:
    (43.68+34.84+20.2+71.70 = 170.42MB)

    -iphone_ram.png

    where are 86MB gone?

    thanks

Tweaks, mods, themes, etc. use RAM on your iPhone. Specifically, Mobile Substrate takes alot. You can use process killer in SBSettings to free a little more up, but your iPhone will never be at the maximum amount of RAM because the thing needs it to run smoothly.

HAha he isn't asking whats eating his ram he is asking why is it missing.
The answer to that question is the phone may have 256k
But it takes ram to run the iOS so keep in mind that usually doesn't show i am not exactly sure how much ram it takes the os going but i am sure its a big number. Also from your pic you may not being using all your available ram so that may be why its not shown as well.

Its there just not trust me apple didn't sell you a 170K of ram phone lol

What you said is not the same as what cowboy said at all. The things you listed are accounted for in the graph. Which is not what the OP is asking. What cowboy was saying is it is most likely that the iPhone hardware/OS is using up some of the 256mb address space leaving the amount left in the graph for running everything else, which is what the OP was asking.

Ah. I thought he meant like what other stuff was taking it up (not the OS itself) sorry.

two words: administrative overhead. It affects memory, HD space, as well as data rates and throughputs. Tis a fact of the computing world
