I have a very unique situation.
I have replaced my iPhone diplay assembly 3 times.

EVERY time, it won't power on or work.
EVERY time I plug the old display in, and it works fine.

I have bought 3 different displays from 2 different vendors.

    Any clues?

I've done several iPhone 4 displays.

    Am I missing something?

    Interesting.

I assume you've already tried a hard reset? Also (and I know it sounds weird) try putting it all back together until you start connecting the flex cables with the new screen. Instead of plugging in the new screen plug the old one in and try turning it on. If it works then unplug that one and plug in the new screen then check if it works.

If neither of those work, I'm going to have to suggest a restore.

Put it all back together. And here are the results...

The old screen works fine. The new one doesn't come on.

I've done a reset and a restore on it. It doesn't matter. The results are always the same.
Initially the new displays will work if I bench test them.

    Here are the accurate results...

SCREEN 1) Put it on, and put phone together. Screen would come on, but the display was garbled, like watching a TV with just static on. Put on old screen, and it works fine.

SCREEN 2) Tested it first. It came on, and looked great. Put screen in, assembled everything all the way to the battery. Tested before I put the back on. No display. No light, nothing. Put on old screen, and it works fine.

SCREEN 3) Tested it first. It came on, and looked great. Put screen in, put logic board in. Put battery in, and tested it. Worked fine. Completed the assembly. Tested before I put the back on. No display. No light, nothing. Put on old screen, and it works fine.

Is the rubber guard the protect the LCD and Digitizer flex cables still on your logic board?

edit because I made absolutely no sense the first time.

Actually it's not. I know they were on the 4, but not the 4S.

    I have a rubber guard from a 4. I'll attach that one.

Still, that's just an insulator to keep the cables from chafing.

Yeah I know but it's such an odd issue I feel like something is pinching. Could be way off but doesn't hurt to try right?

I saw you got the issue fixed. Just a new screen? Seems crazy that you'd have that many bad screens. I'm curious lol.

That's the best I can figure. I'm rather meticulous about putting them together.

Me too. I do everything EXACTLY the same everytime. Just felt highly unlikely that you'd have that many bad screens. Must be something wrong with the flexes. They apparently don't like being bent too much. Tough luck but congrats on getting it up an running finally.

The iPhone 4/S cables for the LCD are extremely fragile, even the slightest bend over the necessary norm and you can destroy it completely. The Screen 1 symptom you described is exactly one of the results of a broken LCD cable. Either way, happy to hear you got everything figured out!
