white screen of death

I have a iphone 3gs. from some time the mic was not working so i tried to find out the problem and for that i opened my iphone and tried to figure out whats wrong then i found that the connection of the mic was lose so i left the repair and and reassembled my iphone and then i found that my iphone was no longer working.

well i have done some repair attempt before like replacing the digitizer but this time i don't know what happened.

i thought that this is some kind of software problem so i update my iphone 3gs 3.1.3 to 5.0.1(+jailbreak) every thing went smoothly but i am still getting that white screen of death.

i don't think this is the screen problem because i can't make or recive any calls. when i hold down the home button voice control doesn't works. the only sound i can get out of the phone is when i connect/disconnect it to my computer.

well the itunes still detects it but i can't get anything working.

White screen can be caused by two things (one of which you may be able to fix)

Thing number #1:
Your LCD is shot, simple and plain replace it. Original A+ Sharp will set you back $25-$35, if you want to go for cheaper grades then you can get some for $10-$15. Repair is easy, easier then replacing the digitizer.

Thing number #2: Your logic board keeps thinking your LCD is not present because you have not turned off your iPhone 3GS during takeapart and took off the cables while the logic board was still powered. To resolve this, remove the front assembly and logic board. Wait 5-10 seconds and reset the logic board and install everything back. Power on only after you have assembled everything. If you see the Apple logo, you found your error.

and still white screen.

how do i know it's just screen because i don't wanna waste my money on it(because i don't have much).

when i press the wake/sleep button it doesn't makes any sound(lock/unlock sound) and i also mentioned that voice control that activates when you hold down the home button is also not working.

is there any way i can check that it's just screen?

It's strange that only the connect chime sounds but nothing else (indicates that your dock+speaker+microphone seems to be working).
Chances are it can be your LCD that's causing an issue.
Double press your home button to get iPod controls and press play (attempt to find the Play button) to play a song. If it plays, then your dock+speaker+microphone works.
Do a fresh restore.

A lot of companies offer a free diagonstic, you will end up paying maybe $15 in mailing fees at worse. They will tell you exactly whats wrong and if its worth fixing. If there was water damage, you could of damaged the logic board. Could be a simple LCD replacement. If you want to stay close to home, contact Cowboy.
